Long before Valentine was born, his father was adopted into a family made up of wizards and witches. Having been born from two muggles who simply wanted a better life for their son, they dropped Henry off on the doorstep of the well known family. Surprised, but the situation definitely not being unheard of or unfamiliar, the family took him in and raised him like their own. He had been their only child at the time and received their undivided attention, that is, until their real first child was born. This child could do no wrong in their eyes. He had been kissed by God himself and was destined for greatness, to go further in life than the other child could even see. Of course, they still loved the muggle, but it was blatantly becoming more obvious which child they were more fond of. It seemed like the older they grew, the more ambitious Henry became in this imaginary contest that he would always remain second place in. Though, it greatly started to decline once they hit their teens and his brother's powers began to really manifest, as well as when his brother received his letter, but his never came. He would constantly ask himself why he, too, wasn't getting any magic, their parents having yet to tell him about his fate. Henry was always nose deep in spell books and mixing potions, he couldn't understand why somebody like his brother, he didn't study even a fraction as much as he did, had such powerful magic. He was undeserving of it. Henry had been the first born after all, or so he continued to think until he became an adult. His brother was sent to Hogwarts and he was forced into a muggle job, his parents having made up that maybe he just hadn't gotten the magical trait that they passed onto his brother. It bothered him, yes, but in an attempt to stay positive, he had to try and move on. Eventually marrying a muggle woman who worked under the same field as himself, Valentine and his twin brother Lionel were born. The kids did everything together; ate together, played together, sat next to each other in every class and even had the same friend circle. Lionel, having been older by 2 minutes (which was a great accomplishment he might add), had the more dominant, outgoing and straightforward personality. Valentine on the other hand, was far more reserved, shy and unassertive. Having always relied on him when he was in trouble, it was often Lionel scolded him for being too emotional or worrying about things that couldn't be changed. Their father, just happy to see that their relationship was far better than his and his own brother's, was content with the life he had created. Then came the day when their lives changed forever; the twins had magic. Henry had jumped for joy once they received their letters from Hogwarts. The boys weren't nearly excited as their father was, who kissed and spun around their visibly pale mother almost instantly. Grabbing his coat, Henry left his house to go share the news with his brother. The minute the door was pulled open, the paper was shoved in his face, as well as the air was filled with excited cries. "Can you believe it, brother? The kids have gotten into Hogwarts!" His brother snatched the letter from his hand, staring down at the paper in disbelief as Henry continued to babble on. "This isn't possible," his brother finally spoke, seemingly have reread the same two lines over and over until his head spun. "What ever do you mean? It says it right here-" "Henry, you're a muggle." Henry paused, laughter beginning to bubble in his stomach at the seemingly absurd comment of his. It wasn't until he noticed how serious his brother's expression was that his own had dropped and the laughter died down. "What? No, that doesn't make sense... our parents! My sons are half bloods-" "They're half bloods because they're my kids." It seemed like his whole world came crashing down. Everything he thought he created, he had finally felt like he beat his brother at something when actually he had never moved from second place. Arguments between the twins' mother and father ensued for days on end, neither of them knowing what the source could've been. Their father refused to look at them, let alone be in the same room with them, now starting to see just how much they looked like his own brother. Valentine needed some time outside of their house but Lionel was too drained to do anything but stay inside. For the first time since they were born, the boys spent time apart, Valentine having hung out with their childhood friends at the library for much longer than they usually would. It felt like he could finally breathe, having been so stressed out about his parents and so nervous for when him and his brother would be sent off to school. With a final wave to his friends when the sun lowered from the sky, Valentine went back to his house with a bit more pep in his step than usual. Then all was lost when he entered, his father having went insane the hour he had left, killing his mother, his brother and then finally himself with a letter that read, "I would've killed you too."
