From birth, Eleazar was always a little.... eccentric. Then again, it probably wasn't his fault considering his parentage and family background. His Korean-born but European-raised father (as a child, his father and /his/ family moved around a lot but often times they found themselves returning to either France, Great Britain or the Eastern European region of Caucasus), one Xerxes Haejin Shin, was one of the leading wizards credited for the groundbreaking and arduous research behind the development of the Sensovitalis potion, an absolutely tricky and volatile concoction that would give its drinker an intensely heightened sense of moral / spatial sensitivity for about three hours max; drinkers of the Sensovitalis potion are said to be able to instantly detect when someone is lying to them, when something bad is about to happen, when someone has ill intentions towards a particular person or idea / thought, when something is trully a blessing in disguise and so on. Xerxes himself had proclaimed off-hand that the potion was "the perfect complement to Felix Felicis", but strongly cautioned against consuming more than one dosage of both together over a period of at least 3 months.

Eleazar truly loved and respected his father and his dedicated passion to Potions, all while still fulfilling his duties as a loving father as best as he could. Moreover, he respected his father for having the ability and heart to fall in love with his mother, a Muggle woman by the name of Athena Azorra. She was a street performer, a fortune teller who regularly performed and set up shop at various carnivals and festivals within the region. Xerxes had attended one such festival before, having needed a break from his work due to the impending stress it inevitably brings around at times. He had known of the Muggle world's viewpoints and perceptions of "magic", and having came across Athena's artfully designed tent and poster, he decided to give it a try for himself. After all, Muggles were without magic; he would be in no danger of actually getting Cursed, Jinxed or Hexed.

He was so very wrong. He hadn't made any Amortentia, much less taken it himself, for a few good decades, yet when he entered the tent, he found one of the very few strongest spells being cast on him without warning - love. And he was sure the petite woman sitting at the table awaiting him felt it too, if her words stuttering to a stop and the gentle tinting of her cheeks were any indication. It could be considered a cliche, but Eleazar never fails to swoon over the story of his parents' first meeting no matter how often he's heard it.

Chapter Two

Of course, no love story is ever perfect, and the couple were not without flaws. Xerxes and his side of the family have a deeply-hidden long-running family secret - there was a distant now-forgotten family member who had dabbled in the dark arts and became a death eater. not much was known about said family member as the family made quick work to disown and remove all traces of her from their history, but the damage had already been done nonetheless. Xerxes himself never bothered to find out more about this ancestor of his, but the stigma had apparently managed to survive even a few generations down the bloodline; when he started attending school and subsequently moved on to find work, he'd had his fair share of suspicions and skepticism from his schoolmates and potential and current workmates. It could've been worse, really; he could've been shunned from society completely despite his disposition being anything but dark or evil in any way.

as if dealing with the stigma from the wizarding world wasn't enough, Athena's strictly religious Muggle family believed his well manners, natural charm & charisma and his god-like looks to be too good to be true, and they absolutely refused to allow the two to wed, believing Xerxes to be a demon of some sort luring her to the deepest pits of temptation (as if they didn't consider her Inclination to fortune-telling blasphemy enough). It took the pregnancy with Euthalia, Eleazar's older sister, the light threat of stealing Athena away from her family and maybe one or two non-verbal charming spells that they finally relented, though it took them much longer to give the couple their blessings.

Xerxes & Athena were not a perfect couple and they definitely were not the perfect parents, but to Eleazar they're as perfect as they can be. Despite the occasional snide or mocking remarks they would still sometimes receive from the more-devout distant relatives on Athena's side, or the harsh suspicions directed at them from the occasional circle of uninformed magic folk xerxes had to interact or work with, they learnt quickly enough to pay them no mind. Why let themselves be brought down by such remarks when they had each other? Eleazar wouldn't have wished for another set of parents in their places, anyway.

Chapter Three

Growing up in the Azorra-Shin household, Eleazar had nothing but a childhood full of love and nurture. Euthalia was a very reliable older sister, and at times when Xerxes had to leave on longer-than-usual work trips, she proved to be a great help around the house, using magic where Athena couldn't to make their lives just a little easier without overdoing it. Athena herself had her fair share of strengths despite being a Muggle, teaching both her daughter and son the Muggle way of life so as to blend in easily with the rest of the Muggle community they lived a stone's throw from. When Euthalia received her acceptance letter to Hogwarts, their parents were beyond overjoyed, Athena more so than Xerxes. She displayed exemplary aptitude of magic from a very young age, and despite being housed in Hufflepuff, she never let the demeaning treatments some of her other schoolmates gave get to her.

However, the rumours about her family's "supposed" history with the dark arts (it was just that one former family member, but the stigma had been ingrained deeply enough to make others in wizarding society believe all of them were involved in one way or another) truly stumped her, and though she never did bring up the subject to her father, she made quick work to confide in Eleazar about them lest he be subjected to the same treatment.

Eleazar received his own acceptance letter the month before Euthalia was set to graduate, and aside from the rumours and (unverified) accounts, he was more excited than anything given the experiences his sister had shared with him through the years. To add to the family joy, they also welcomed the arrival of baby Evangeline not long after.

The week before Eleazar was set to depart for Hogwarts was one of the busiest weeks in the family's life; Xerxes had taken the week off to really impart his magical knowledge to him while Euthalia took the time to impart her existing knowledge of Hogwarts to him. Athena in turn took the time to care for Evangeline. They also made time to shop for Eleazar's school needs at the famous Diagon Alley, though the trip was far from eventful given Xerxes running into workmates every few steps and Euthalia coming across a handful of her former schoolmates (and enemies) every other shop. Eleazar himself wasn't too affected as the environment on the whole was an exciting experience in itself for him, but he did take notice of the occasional stares and hushed murmurs especially from the families of Euthalia's former schoolmates. The first major chapter of his life was truly just about to unfold.

Appearance: his most distinguishing feature is perhaps his freckled face. he also often sports a head of blond hair regardless of shade (platinum, strawberry, ash, dirty, rose, ice, you name it); occasionally he'll sport a colour ranging from silver to purple. he likes to accessorize - he has a pierced left earlobe and helix which he often fills out with an extravagant chained double earring, and he also has 2 right earlobe and a right inner conch piercing which he keeps filled with simple studs. depending on his mood he may also adorn his undereyes with small pieces of face jewels, and you will also find him sporting at least one ring on his fingers. when he's not in the customary uniform robes, his go-to fashion style would be something casual and comfortable yet stylish - his typical ensemble consists of slightly ripped jeans folded to his ankles, high-cut sneakers, a long-sleeved white button-up and a sleeveless knitted cardigan over.

Personality: Eleazar's generally a soft-spoken person, albeit having a rather rich and deep voice. His natural disposition leans towards being calm and self-confident, almost serene; at times this may Rub some people wrongly especially in heated conversations. Regardless, He'll never raise his volume or tone since he abhors discord in all of its forms. He also has a mysterious aura; aside from the rumours of his sister and their family's supposed Inclination to the dark arts, no one really knows much else about him unless they take the efforT to reach out to him and let him open up to them. That's not to say that he's an introvert though; he's rather astute, and more often than not he knows more about his schoolmates and certain happenings (of the non-gossip kind) than anyone does about him. He's usually more articulate On his social media, and rarely (if ever) bears grudges or ill intentions towards anyone.

history of magic's proving to be a bane for eleazar's academic records, so he decides to take matters into his own hands before it turns into a major problem unsolved. however, he never factored the additonal wrench being thrown into his plan - said wrench came in the form of a handsome kind-hearted but mischievous and flirty prankster by the name of henri knight. eleazar's never been in love before, but something about henri's flirtiness has him feeling things in his chest for the first time.

 

eleazar may not be one of the more socially active students among the student body, but it never bothered him that he never had a circle of close-knit best friends like most others. he still had the rest of his school years and he honestly preferred staying out of the spotlight when he could help it, anyway. thus, imagine his (pleasant) surprise when one morning he was approached by atticus crawford, the popular and handsome hufflepuff prefect. last he checked, he hadn't blatantly broken any rules so to what pleasure does he owe the elder for their sudden meeting?

 

for reasons still unknown to him, eleazar seemed to be catching the eyes (and attention) of multiple heartthrobs especially recently, and the new student who had easily secured their first meeting was no exception. however, some muggles used to say that the third time is always the charm, and eleazar couldn't help the instinct that there was more to this particular heartthrob than meets the eye.

 

 

eleanora hwang. one of the people eleazar simply had no business interacting with. the only things that he knew about her were her name, house and affiliations with a few of the more popular and outspoken seniors. yet fate decided to bring their worlds together when she coincidentally happened to be perusing a book he needed for a homework assignment. not being one to be rude to snatch away the book, eleazar attempted to start up a small conversation with her in hopes of getting what he needed, but eleanora may have other plans. turns out, they may have a little more in common than what previously met the eye.

 

another new student, another story to uncover especially if said student is a fellow housemate and classmate. eleazar was quick to warm up to and bond with mint (partially due to his close friendship with maël), but further bonding had led to the discovery of a shocking well-kept secret, one that could potentially create unintended discord in both their families. how would he take such a relevation when he's worked so hard never to bring up his hidden dark family history?
