born to a korean muggle mother and a french pure-blood father, maël clair (later known simply as mal) grew up between worlds, quite literally. he was born in arles, france, but has spent most of his childhood in cambridge, england. once his parents split up, he was forced to travel between england and france frequently, learning and speaking both english and french. his split heritage had a say in his upbringing, and given he was an only child, his parents saw to his every need. he grew accustomed to getting anything his heart desired. understandably then, he threw a tantrum whenever his wishes were not fulfilled, making him rather spoiled and insufferable as a child. the back and forth made it hard for him to make friends, and the little groups he had both in france and in england stuck around only because he was ‘the rich one’, someone who could lent them expensive toys and treat everyone to lunch. it was true, for the most part, people loved his attention not him. mal spoiled his pretended friends for the admiration these awarded him with.

nevertheless, his simple muggle life ended when his acceptance letter arrived at his doorstep. it was not easy to move into a third world after experiencing the cruelty of living a double life. the label ‘freak’ had all the more reasons to circulate around. especially when mal waved a stick around, and insisted that he can do magic, yet is not allowed to show. despite his cunning nature, the sorting hat placed him in ravenclaw. mal felt a little disappointed, given everything about him, in his opinion, was ‘bad’ (including his self-given nickname) – he wanted to be the villain, for some reasons. but he quickly learnt that he got exactly what his heart desired – a way to express himself. the child who wanted to be the 'bad guy' became the friend of the world. mal has always been interested in pretty things and colours. as a child he was praised for his many artistic abilities (for example, he proved to have a musical ear, and play instruments almost automatically after listening to them once or twice). he learnt to belong, and there was no better house for his rather chaotic, unexplained nature.

at hogwarts university, mal would fit in the stereotype of the artistic student – head in the clouds, a little out of it, and unexpectedly bold. he would spend hours talking about things he finds interesting, and he has a way of dragging people into little projects. he has a severe case of adhd (which he keeps in check with medication), so he tends to be all over the place - everywhere and nowhere. he smartly accepts danger, but does not dive head-first – despite being a little childish, he can act mature when needed. he likes competition, and would step on anyone if needed – not by breaking rules, but by tearing them apart at the seams. he is very intelligent despite appearances – he keeps his knowledge below the surface to avoid people who would use him. he is an aesthete, he likes to live life – naturally, he would allow himself to catch fire at the sight of a pretty person, or to flirt confidently. but do not be fooled, he is very independent and does not like to commit to anything, hence he tries a little of everything (some things stick for longer). he is a very passionate person, who truly cares about people - even if he would often disregard their opinions, or explode at minor things. when it comes to love, he likes to have fun, and is afraid of commitment. he would rather run away than commit, therefore he prefers friendly or open 'love' relationships. you will never get to hear a sincere 'i love you' from him, but he will drown you in compliments, and gifts. he likes to go out on casual dates, and can be quite romantic (even if he prefers adventure dates). if he loses interest in someone, he lets them down easy, and chooses to stay friends with them (if they so wish). most crushes and interactions he has are purely platonic, and he is content with that.

I am a busy masters student currently writing my MA thesis. replies might come slow, but they always come! feel free to poke me after one week of no response (and no updates). keep in mind that replies rely heavily on inspiration and motivation. if you lose interest in our plot, please let me know (I can assure you, I will not get upset). I will, in turn, also let you know if I lose muse/inspiration for our plot.

writing style:

my writing tends to range from multi-para to novella, depending on my inspiration and writing partner. I tend to mirror when possible (if I do not have a writer's block). I would be happy if you could adjust to my length (not exactly the same, but at least half of what I give you - sometimes I go overboard, so do not feel pressured, please). this is important because I need something to work with. I will never tolerate one-lined replies, and would drop any partner who gives me that. I put effort, passion, and care in all my replies, hence why they come slower sometimes.

plotting:

I like a variety of diverse themes and genres, and to be honest, I am alright with most of them (I prefer darker plots, with violence/blood/gore/psychological issues/etc. but light-hearted adventure/slice of life are also good). given the nature of this roleplay, short, friendly plots would work better! I do not do , fluff, or forced romance plots (my gf dislikes it when I write with others, and honestly the genre does not intrigue me, it bores me to death - just my personal input). however, if the plot requires implied , or develops into some sort of romantic connection it is alright! canons have to be discussed beforehand!

triggers:

anything regarding ual abuse or non-consensual ual activity; suicide; depression; and self-harm. if our plot or your storyline involves any of these, it is alright if you mention them, just do not go into details please. I can assure you I treat all triggering topics as sensitively as possible (and I always mark them). I will ask you your triggers before plotting (if you do not have them listed), and if you are underage, I will not have extremely violent, or triggering plots with you.
