Description
the jungs were best known for their notoriety in the film industry – and being a jung meant a life in the limelight, from birth till death an inescapable vulnerability to the rich horrors of media. little eunbi would soon take part in the infamy, and partly against her own will.
the girl never wished for such a life. she'd always felt that lavishness wasn't for a girl like her. not a day would pass that eunbi did not wish for such a simpler manner of living, resorting only to her quaint yet joyous hours under the glimmering sun for solace from early stardom. but steadfast remained her duties as the daughter of jung eunwon, and much to her dislike, she'd soon land her first role in a drama series. she was to play the antagonist, the princess and heir to unfavorable lands governed by an unfavorable ruler. she were to be every bit as disagreeable as her on-stage father, who was of course portrayed by none other than eunwon himself. she was a natural – no doubt she would be. she was, after all, a protégée of the jungs.
from then on she'd be called eunha: a moniker unique to her on-stage persona, a veil of a name concealing the truth behind the starlet.
role after role, she'd only further solidified her place within the industry she was born into. she was talented, no doubt, but it couldn't be denied that she embodied a definite magic within her. no matter which role she'd be given, she'd always shine the brightest on screen. jung eunha, first of the jungs to be adored by so many.
the people began to call her the morning star, for the way she shone so naturally, as if it were but a second skin so easily worn.
to say that she did not learn to enjoy the many exuberances she was offered would be an understatement; eunha found it within her to admire her standing and take part in it's numerous benefits. she grew into what would be expected of her as her father's daughter: ambitious, charismatic, endearingly bratty, and delicately spoiled. clearly a true jung, through and through.
yet, no matter the luxuries, no matter how great the gold and fame – within her was only a profound emptiness, a rapid thirst eager to be quenched. the higher she was, the more the ache within her, the longing for the life she so wished as a child grew. it almost seemed like a destiny she'd ought to fulfill; that somehow, her life was intertwined with many others in a byzantine masterplan waiting to unfold.
she adored being adored, but adoration did not equate to love. privy to the watchful eyes around her, she'd decided it would be best to pay no mind to the calling within. after all, she was a jung; she was made for this, made to live this life. she'd more to prove, both to the public and to her family. eunha would play her part as she'd always done. nothing but a golden pawn. a shiny plaything made for bragging. the morning star.
day and night, she'd exhaust her abilities for her craft. eunha became obsessive with her career, working to the extent of her capabilities and driving herself closer to her breaking point by the day. perhaps it was a way to distract herself from the gnawing within her, or perhaps it was to prove to that emptiness that this is where she belonged. her light began to dull out, and the gaping orifice within her only grew with time.
once, a particularly taxing day came to her; tired out of her wits, eunha fainted in the middle of the set. she was grappling with consciousness, but she'd felt the warmth of the sun above her as she's rushed to the hospital. it soothed her, lulled her, it knew her name. eunbi.
then finally, the dream came.
opaline, unblemished clusters spread beyond her – clouds. multitudes of them, and she rose amongst them. she glanced above her and was greeted with darkness, stark and ebonied save for the flickering of a few stars. she... she did not feel human. not when she noticed the intricate wreathing of gold and silk upon her hands, not when she'd realized that the clouds scattered below her are of the gown she donned.
she stood between dark and light, heaven and earth. something called for her, a name she couldn't recognize yet was all but foreign. "alectrona..." she seemed to sway towards the voice, as if it commanded her. "my lady, it is time."
in instict, she began to raise her hands high above her, summoning from within a rush of power she presumably had. and as her fingers rose and rose, so did the sun come and follow them. the voice did not command her. the voice was the sun. and she commanded the sun to rise.
she woke the next day only to find herself in desperation to go outside once more. the nurses believed to be good for her – the warmth of the sunlight would help for a swift recovery, they said. but unbeknownst to her caretakers, eunha began to again seek the sun's fortitude as she'd done as a child. she'd rediscovered the felicity of the sun's company, and how the clouds seem to dance among the skies in her favor.
and in those moments, she was jung eunbi once again; no more than a lonely little girl making friends with the sun.
afterwards, she began to develop a noticeable resignation for her profession. she'd often be seen zoning away or out of sorts where she'd usually be headstrong and focused. many believed her previous affliction to be the culprit, and to a degree, they were certainly correct – the same recurring dream visited her nightly, always the same robes, always the same stars, always the same name.
alectrona.
something about the name, however odd it may have seemed, felt as though it belonged to her. it rolled off eunbi's tongue perfectly as if she'd spent her whole life speaking it, despite having never heard of it before. and the sun, it listened to her...
all of a sudden, everything began to click. the emptiness she felt, all her associations to being a "shining star", the way the sun was the only true friend she'd ever had. could it be that the reason for all this was one and the same? to all who thought they knew her, it felt as though it the mishap brought her to insanity. but to eunbi, shining little eunbi, her life had never seen more clarity.
she knew she needed answers, but for the first time in her life, she'd decided she would not wait for anyone else to give it to her. dawn broke over the city, and renowned actress jung eunha was nowhere to be found. in a blink of an eye, the morning star of the jung family was gone. eunbi drove and drove until it felt proper. she hadn't the faintest clue where to go, only following where the sun led her. this was the first decision she'd ever made that was purely and solely for her, and the only decision she'd ever made that she did not doubt.
her engine broke down in a city called moirai, where the lot of them seem to have not recognized the runaway actress. she'd meant only to spend the night and be on her way, but as the sun crept over the horizons the next day, something within her told her to stay in the city. for better or for worse, she'd decided to listen to that little voice in her head once more.
jung eunha would forever remain missing. jung eunha belonged to the public, she was their morning star, their shining light. but in all her glory, she and the life that came with her could not compare to the pure glee that the life in moirai promised.
she'd left eunha a long time ago. now, she was only jung eunbi – a mighty little girl who loves the sun.
the darling bright sun, vibrant colors, loud laughter, driving till sundown, dreaming, traveling, moments of silence and reflection, dance-inducing music, the occasional parties, movies, attending shows, unconstricting clothing, fierce creatures.
any form of enforced modesty, the feeling of being trapped in a situation, lukewarm passion, being told what to do, the dark nights of the cold winter, underestimation, tradition, spiked plants, being stuck, being recognized.
acting, attending parties, driving, tweaking jewelry, shopping, binge watching history documentations, cooking competitions and home renovation shows, waking up to watch the sunrise, eating peaches while watching the sun go down..
to make a name for herself, to be known as anyone other than jung eunha, to fully strip herself of her identity as an actress, to start a new life where she's free to live as she wants, to figure out what her dreams mean, to find someone who understands her even without asking.

"up then, fair phoenix bride, frustrate the sun; Thyself from thine affection Takest warmth enough, and from thine eye All lesser birds will take their jollity. Up, up, fair bride, and call Thy stars from out their several boxes, take Thy rubies, pearls, and diamonds forth, and make Thyself a constellation of them all; And by their blazing signify That a great princess falls, but doth not die. Be thou a new star, that to us portends Ends of much wonder; and be thou those ends."
― John Donne, The Complete English Poems
So, go on rising, sun, you don't frighten us. We don't care about your many miles, your diameter, your volume. Warm sun, just rise, bright light, arise. You are not big, you are not small, you are happiness.
