The Advocate

Ever since Sunmi had been small, she always had more fight in her than was usually accepted for one of the female persuasion. Whenever she came across someone taking advantage of the other children, even if the infraction was relatively slight, she would have to step in. Standing up for the little guy was a compulsion that she just couldn’t ignore and when she tried to do so, to turn a blind eye, the results were often explosive and physical. More than once she would be sent to the headmasters, deans, and other authorities for those altercations. While not exactly a trouble maker, she did have a reputation as a bit of a firecracker when she wasn’t an ice queen and most people didn’t really know what to do with the volatile and seemingly confused child.

Her youth was spent moving from school to school trying to get away from problems that she ‘caused’ only for her to find herself in a similar mess eventually anyway. For their part, her parents tried to understand her but when she was unable to articulate the reasons behind her actions they sent her to therapy. The therapist too could not comprehend the thought processes behind her actions and several attempts were made to medicate her to an acceptable level of docility. At one point, she was so heavily prescribed that she was nearly comatose and almost died walking across the street. Had it not been for another teenager paying attention to her, she might have lost her life but she still had to be taken to the hospital for treatment. After that, she sort of lost her trust in the adult population and slowly began to shut herself off from virtually everyone.

Shortly thereafter, she ended up in a violent situation where the perpetrator then tried to sue her for injuries he incurred while fighting her. That was when she discovered not only a place where it was acceptable to stand up for others but that there was an entire profession dedicated to it. In the courtroom, she watched her attorney spar with the prosecutors; doing not only verbal but mental battle to make sure that Sunmi got a fair shake. The young woman was stunned and it was as if a proverbial ray of light had shown upon her as she realized that she too wanted to do just that. It was then that she refocused on her studies and, despite a few small spats here and there, she eventually went to university to become a lawyer.

Eventually Sunmi graduated and ended up working for a local district attorney’s office where she specialized in child advocacy, a particularly brutal area of law that seemed to have a high turnover rate. She didn’t mind though. The grueling hours and soul crushing cases actually fueled her will to do her job well which eventually led to her making a name for herself as one of the toughest in the field.

Word came to her of a job opening up at a prestigious law firm in Moirai City and it became clear that her name was at the top of the list to work for one of the most successful civil law teams. She had garnered quite the reputation for her abilities in the courtroom when it came to representing her underage clients, complete with an impressive win percentage, which made her desirable and many had tried to recruit her. While at first she was reluctant to take the offer, a sizable monetary raise was added for her as well as paid relocation so she soon found herself packing. Now settled into her home, she is slowly feeling her way through the new and yet somehow familiar place which seemed to call to her. If only she knew what it was trying to say.

Personality Often cold at first, she can warm up pretty quickly with some people to reveal her bright and bubbly personality on the inside. Silly and with a wry sense of humor, Sunmi can be quite charming despite the distance she tends to put between herself and others. There is almost a back and forth with her as she struggles to decide if she is ready to let people in or of she is better being alone.
