Eunsang didn't know what he wanted to do with his life, but music certainly wasn't a part of his options.

 

He was born into an upper-middle class family residing in Seoul, South Korea. His parents have secured funds for his school and college quite easily, and they have never pressured him into going to a good university or living his life in a certain way. The Seo family values good above everything else ﹣ all they expected from him was to be a kind and positive person.

 

As a child, Eunsang was considered matured for his age and was a natural leader. Even his teachers at school would count on him to deescalate fights between his peers, and somehow he would always succeed in doing so. Then they began to rely on him too much that it started taking a toll on his own emotional wellbeing.

 

He lashed out on his homeroom teacher one day when they asked him to resolve a bullying problem in his class. "I don't know what to do!" he yelled, face burning with fury. Silence followed afterwards in the classroom, and his homeroom teacher had only stared at him with agape. "Stop it! I'm tired!"

 

To no one's surprise, the school had to call his parents for his "unusual misbehaviour". The disapproving frown and glint of sadness in his parents' eyes as they look at him remain fresh in his memory to this day. A rush of guilt immediately washed over him ﹣ his parents had given him everything he wanted, so how pathetic must he be to not be able to repay that?

 

The next day, he went back on as a makeshift counsellor for his peers as if nothing happened. His teachers didn't think much of the incident and shrugged it off as nothing more than Eunsang being in a sour mood. And they soon forgot about it too. He has the patience of a saint, they said. They've never seen him without a smile etched on his face since then. It's as if he was a peacekeeping robot.

 

Of course, how could he not show the world that he's human, when they punish him for being one?

 

He tried keeping a journal to let his emotions out from time to time, but he feared that his parents would find it, so instead he found solace in the strangest place ﹣ music. It all started when he tried to turn his ramblings into song lyrics in his notebook, just because he figured that he might as well turn his vile words into something prettier. Then he hummed a random melody for it, and it somehow turned out decent.

 

His parents agreed to buy him a guitar without skipping a beat, which he taught himself how to play. Six months later, he entered himself into the school's talent show just because, and ended up winning the runner-up prize for his original song. "We all know that your normal speaking voice is nice, but holy crap, who knew you sang well too," his friends had told him. He snagged the grand prize two years after his first talent show. Music became something that brought him and the people around him joy, and it was so much better than being the school's makeshift therapist.

 

Despite that, he ended up studying psychology at university. And no, he didn't know what he wanted to do with it. He never had thoughts about becoming a musician before ﹣ until he found himself in love with someone who did.

 

Eunsang dropped out in his third year of university to solely focus on the band he formed with four other members. It was supposed to be an elaborate scheme to get close to his crush at first, but they became a hit overseas just three years after their debut in 2015, which landed them a deal in Hollywood. He became more commonly known as Ciel ﹣ the fierce, charismatic leader of Ozone Layer.

 

But perhaps their sharp rise to popularity was a curse in disguise, because during the peak of their fame, the band had to announce their sudden hiatus, leaving the fans and media baffled. People started theorizing about what happened, but only they knew the truth.

 

Sure, becoming a permanent band member wasn't a part of his plan, but Eunsang genuinely cared for s, and being the overly optimistic fool he is, he is determined to bring them back together.

Eunsang lives by his parents' words and generally treats people with kindness. To him, the glass is always half full, and he is generally a positive presence in his environment. He's seen his fair share of corruption in the music industry, but he doesn't let it taint him. Over the years, he has remained humble despite his fame.

 

He is well-known for the stark contrast in his on-stage and off-stage persona. He is especially gentle to his fans and uses every possible opportunity to show them his appreciation. His fans back home calls him the king of fanservice ﹣ but that just shows how much of a people pleaser he has become.
