background

as the daughter of a high-ranking general in the korean military, miyeon never lived in one place for long. born in korea, she lived in seoul until the age of 5 when her dad was transferred to china, then japan, then spain, and finally to the united kingdom, where her family has resided ever since. sojourning in so many different countries allowed miyeon to experience the world and its resplendence to an extent unobtainable by way of mere travel. in addition to being nearly fluent in 5 languages (although her korean is a bit awkward), miyeon is jack of many trades, well-versed in a variety of cultures and arts.  

 

at age 18, just before she was set to begin at cambridge university, tradgedy struck their small family of 3. miyeon's mother, who had long been struggling with bouts of cancer, finally succumbed to the disease. although this news did not come as a shock, nor did it stir within her any particularly crippling or pernicious emotions, miyeon did not feel as if she attained proper closure. thus, she decided to defer her studies and instead chose to embark on a sabbatical to do what her mother, who had grown up in poverty, had always dreamed of doing: aiding underprivileged youths in their access to higher education - a carte blanche her mother was never afforded. joining the volunteer ranks of a nonprofit, miyeon traveled around europe, educating fgli students and helping them with applications and scholarships.

 

ultimately, when it was time for her to resume her studies, miyeon resolved. to attend university in korea to honor her mother's memory, as well as to become more in-touch with her roots. as a result, she applied and was accepted to saebom university, where she is currently a first year student.

 

growing up in a global setting cultivated miyeon into a positive, independent, open-minded young woman; however, it failed to give her what she most strongly desired: the continuity of close friendship, and experience in both and love. throughout her time at saebom, she hopes to fulfill these wishes and, in the fullness of time, heal the hole gouged in her by her mother's untimely death.
