elijah oliver young was born to a korean muggle father and a pure-blood irish mother as the youngest child of three in a bloodline of successful slytherins. his older brother (30), evan young, married in 2018 and is waiting for his first daughter to be born. his older sister (27), amelia rose young, is an auror working for macusa and is currently residing in california, us. as the youngest member of the family, elijah is expected to follow in his sibling’s footsteps and become a successful wizard. however, elijah has always had other plans.

elijah was born with a good ear for music, something he did not inherit but rather received as a gift at birth. as the only member of the family who showed a particular interest in the subject, his parents entertained the idea of having a talented child. he has been playing music since before he could even think for himself, and has picked up an array of instruments over the years, like the classic cello and piano and the less traditional ukulele. but, he has always been particularly interested in drums (by extension the bass, and sometimes the electric guitar), because his sharp sense of rhythm suited the instrument the best. when he turned seven, he was gifted a beautiful drum set and ever since he has fantasised starting his own band.

his dream came true during his teen years. at fifteen he befriended four muggles with whom he played/performed every summer. elijah became their drummer, composer, and leader. although their band focused on covering known bands (old and new, but elijah has always loved older bands like metallica or queen more), they occasionally brought an original song to the table. elijah named the band july rain in honour of guns n’ roses november rain (the band only played during the summer, since elijah attended hogwarts all-year-around save for some christmases). they became quite popular, not only for their talent, but also for their outrageous courage to speak up for those marginalised (or bullied) and for various social causes. the band even hosted an event that helped support an animal shelter.

naturally outspoken and prone to getting into trouble, elijah’s parents were not too pleased to have a son who lead a riot every couple of weeks, whether at hogwarts or in the muggle world. his parents’ rejection of his craft came unexpected, because elijah grew up being the spoiled child of the family. his parents were not too happy to hear elijah wanted to quit school to become a musician and tour the world like [in their words] ‘a mindless buffoon’. they stepped in and sent him to hogwarts university, in hopes that he will become more responsible and adult-like. because of this, elijah refused to speak to them as often or go home for christmas, fully exercising his rebellious side. however, a new place called for a new elijah. and even though he misses his band, its members are all over the world (his muggle friends attend different universities, and they do not come home during the summer). his teen dream has grown up, but elijah did not. he is dead set on starting a band at hogwarts, and experience music in the wizarding world with his classmates. and who knows, he might find a new purpose.

at hogwarts university he fits the stereotype of a rebellious gryffindor. he is loud, outspoken and has a sharp tongue. he is not afraid to stand his ground and protect his friends and those who are too weak to protect themselves. he might have a slight hero-complex, sometimes he puts himself in dangerous situations just to prove a point. he is intelligent, and quite well-spoken but he often chooses to hide his studious side. he does not cause trouble if it is not asked for, and he is definitely that student who talks back to teachers if he feels they have wronged him (or others). he is a natural leader, and fair to everyone regardless of their origin. he tries to befriend everyone, but if he is crossed, he can be ruthless. he cherishes loyalty and honesty, and if his friends do not offer him that, he breaks ties with them (and it is not pretty). he has a very teen-like mentality and is therefore unexperienced in many things like love (he views the concept idealised, and is likely to get hurt easily). music is the way to his heart, and his love language – he would play for his friends or crushes to express his gratitude and care for them.

elijah is an unexperienced mess. he gets crushes very easily, but drops them just as easily. he gets nervous around people he crushes on, and tends to be extremely clumsy and ramble on. he does not blush, but he might break a leg (quite literally). he likes to show big gestures towards those he likes. if he gets into someone, he might ask for permission to touch them or do so in a subtle manner. he does not overstep boundaries, and is respectful of everyone. he views love as an idealised concept, and he is fully expecting it to be like a fairy tale filled with joy and happiness. his innocence in this sense might lead to him getting heartbroken. he has little to no ual experience. even if he finds people attractive, he does not want to get inside their pants, he probably just wants to hold hands. he is not actively looking for a loved one, but if he sees couples around he might feel the need to have someone like that.
