Thorn also has a spirit guide/kami who takes on the physical form of a great horned owl, named Aritomo. However, Thorn could not pronoucne his name correctly and instead calls him Arthur.

Brief bg: Thorn was abandoned by his birth parents under a hawthorn bush and discovered by a human. The human was appalled that someone could leave a baby and adopted him. However, when he turned nine, his kitsune powers began to develop. His mother always thought he was strange, and by the time he was ten he was able to summon fire and manipulate dreams. This frightened his mother, and so she took him back to the spot on the mountain where she found him and said she would be right back. She never came back. Thorn stayed on the mountain for around two years, wandering around, begging in a nearby village, and collecting whatever berries and food he found in the forest. He learned sleight of hand during this time, and other street rat kids showed him how to use a knife to help him with pickpocketing. Eventually Itzal found him and took him in, and Thorn became fiercely loyal to him, seeing him as an older brother. Thorn honed in his knife and pickpocketing skills and now works as a spymaster and thief for Chau.
