though aurelio is outwardly a nice person, there lurks within him a darkness that didn't quite come from his mother. it takes time to break down the exterior, to crack through his upbeat, energetic, rambling, still silly and still childlike disposition; but when that demeanor shatters, when the walls come crumbling down, it leaves a monster in its stead, brutal and cruel and furious, obliterating anything in its path. 

but no one knows about that side of aurelio, and he is viewed as little more than the sweet baby vampire everyone knows him as.

a vampire was born in a castle in italy. his father named him xie yating.

his father was killed when he was two months old. his mother changed his name to aurelio carmine yavetz.

aurelio lived in italy with his mother and his older brother until he was four, at which point the family moved to an island off the coast of spain. 

 

aurelio was a young boy when gisela met and befriended a librarian named bai haolan in the city of dreams, where they had moved. and when aurelio met haolan, he adopted the man as an uncle and as a role model. he wanted to dress like, look like, and act like haolan.

so much so that, when gisela cut his hair, aurelio cried and refused to talk to gisela for a week afterward. haolan was also horrified that gisela had given aurelio a haircut, but to be fair... aurelio hadn't exactly told his mother that he wanted to grow it out. 

even though it pained him, for reasons he wouldn't admit to either of his children (but that caelius knew, and wouldn't disclose to aurelio), gisela allowed aurelio to grow his hair out and dress in similar fashion to haolan. both of the yavetz boys spent a lot of time with the old dragon, when their mother was away for jobs or even just when gisela needed some time to himself. he was the only other family that they needed, their uncle haolan. 

 

aurelio went to school in the city of dreams, with human children and other creature children as well. despite the diverse mix of creatures in his class, there was trouble brewing. he didn't dress, look or talk like the other children his age. his spanish was bad, knowing mostly italian from his birthcountry and mandarin chinese from his mother and brother. his accent was thick, he was weird, and he was a target for bullies for the first few months he went to school. haolan was his comfort person, because aurelio didn't want to tell caelius (overprotective brother) or gisela (stressed, worried mother) about his problems at school.

the novelty of bullying aurelio wore off after those few months, and he was left alone (and made friends, even!) for several years after. but high school came, and it was a terrible time. his classmates were merciless, tearing into him for his looks, hair, manner of dress, his personality. but those weren't things that cracked aurelio's walls.

no, it was when his classmates began to say things about his mother, his brother, the time he spent at the library and even haolan that aurelio would lose his cool. he got into fights, always coming out victorious and always ending up in the office waiting for gisela to come and get him and speak to the principal about his behavior. he was an excellent student, but the fighting had him in trouble at school and at home because he refused to tell gisela why he would fight other boys if they didn't attack him first. 

 

it didn't get better when he graduated and moved on to university. he had played cello in high school, and it was playing cello that he majored in. but when class and practice hours were over and it was just aurelio and his peers, his high school tormentors were still there, with new ones joining the crew. they pushed him ever-closer to breaking, and one day he snapped.

aurelio had always had an ugly little pit of blackness, and that day, they had finally managed to dug into it. he'll never say what it was that caused it to happen, but aurelio lost himself to the monster on the inside. 

seven young men from his university sadly went missing in his sophomore year. their bodies were never found.

aurelio never told anyone, even haolan, what had happened. 

 

gisela had raised him a fighter. weapons, martial arts, his powers, all of it was nothing new to him. but that night made him realize that the part of him he'd been trying to keep in would only get out eventually. even if he was nice, even if he was a sweet person at heart, that blackness could get unleashed and he could hurt the people around him. 

and he couldn't let anyone find out about it, either. especially his mother, his brother, and his uncle haolan. he graduated from his university and didn't look back, tried not to dwell on the events of his sophomore year but the memories haunted him like vengeful spirits, reminding him of what he had done. it began to eat away at him, to the point that his greatest fear to this day is that he will lose control again.

— makes sure none of the people in wanggeom are planning to do anything stupid / pull anything. he appears like a harmless college kid, so he's never seen as a threat by anyone.

— POWERS

 

blood bending. not aurelio's favorite power, but just like his mother, his blood bending is particularly strong. he doesn't have as intense of an affinity as gisela does, but he inherited his strength from him. 

mesmerism and seduction. aurelio isn't good at these. he's still young and has a lot to learn about mesmerism, and seduction just doesn't come naturally to him.

shadow manipulation. his true calling, as far as powers are concerned. aurelio's shadow manipulation is his strongest power, which he inherited from his father (not that gisela would ever tell him this). aurelio's quite good at it. 

shapeshifting. which he never does.  

 

sympathetic magic. taught to both of the yavetz boys by their mother. aurelio caught on to it pretty quickly, but he doesn't really use it; he uses it for good most of the time, but if pushed, he will use sympathetic magic to torment someone.

— WARRIOR

 

bow. his favored ranged weapon. deadly accuracy, his arrows land exactly where he wants them. 

sword. weapons of choice. it is a single-sided blade, with a bit of a curve to it. 

crossbow. as accurate as he is with a bow. bolts go where he wants them to. this isn't a preferred weapon, however.

body. skilled in martial arts, very capable of defending himself even if he doesn't have a weapon in hand. also has fangs if he needs to bite his way out of a situation.

— OCCUPATIONS

 

— plays mainly in orchestras, occasionally plays in quartets and quintents. 

— has played solos before, but usually only in concerts. doesn't enjoy being hired for private, solo shows because they feel weird. 

 

— does paperwork and takes calls for gisela when he's particularly backed up or out on business. 

— has this on his resume lol

 

— doesn't kill under the name aurelio yavetz, because gisela would definitely find out and gisela would definitely not be happy. he kills under the name carmen, an intentionally misspelled version of his middle name. 

— definitely not as prominent an assassin as his mother, but he gets jobs and he gets them done.

— XIE CHAO

 

— many of his physical attributes come from his mother, but the shape of his face, set of his brows and the shape and set of his mouth are all xie chao. the lighter brown haircolor is also his father's; caelius and gisela's natural hair colors are darker than aurelio's. keeping his hair long and dressing the way he does only amplifies how much aurelio looks like his father. if he were as tall as xie chao had been (6'4), aurelio isn't sure gisela would want to be near him. 
+ he knows he looks like xie chao because he's seen pictures of his father. 

— shadow manipulation, which he is strong in because of his father.

— that dangerous pit of evil and darkness definitely came from his father as well, but aurelio's is covered and xie chao's was never restrained. 

 

aurelio has had people approach him because they've mistaken him (at a distance) for his father. other people have treated him cruelly because of the similarity to xie chao. despite gisela and caelius attempting to protect him from knowing what kind of person his father was, aurelio knows. he knows.
