brief background ; phoss was your average outer ridge elf. his parents were lower middle class, his mother a seamstress and his father a local librarian in their small town. phoss himself took after his father, always searching for knowledge, and spent most of his time reading or out in the forest searching for new flora and fauna to study. however, one day phoss’ normal life came to an abrupt end when he was suddenly kidnapped from his own bed. [ stuff in the middle here ] phoss was forced to take the place of the regent king avery since he was essentially the man's doppelgänger, and the original avery had been missing for several months. this is because the public had never been made aware of the regent king's disappearance, so soon after the death of the previous elven queen, and the highest members of the palace did not want to appear weak or worry the public. there is also talk of a potential war brewing between the elven kingdom and another supernatural group, which they want to avoid at all costs.
weapons choice ; a staff that conducts and heightens his already powerful nature magic. this staff also has a sharp end at the bottom, which he can use for stabbing if he needs to, but he avoids maiming and killing at all costs.

[ name meaning ; avery = king of elves, old english || étrabaie = spliced two french words together, étranglement = choke AND baie = berry, chokeberry (a berry that only the flesh is safe to eat, and eating any other part of the berry results in cyanide being released in the stomach) || le soleil = the sun || onderas = made up, but ond = under ] [ REAL NAME meaning ; phoss = plant || offinalich = play on salvia offinalis, the scientific name for the plane sage ] insp. by the graphic novel pandemonium that i got at the scholastic book fair in middle school asdkfjs phoss was your average outer ridge elf. his parents were lower middle class, his mother a seamstress and his father a local librarian in their small town. phoss himself took after his father, always searching for knowledge, and spent most of his time reading or out in the forest searching for new flora and fauna to study. however, one day phoss’ normal life came to an abrupt end when he was suddenly kidnapped from his own bed. left behind was a small amount of blood, and empty spaces where some of his most prized items were, leading his family and friends to believe that phoss had been taken and / or killed. this was to prevent them from looking for him as he was stolen away to the heart of the elven kingdom, to the palace. as it turns out, the true king of the elves has been missing for several months, but the public has not been made aware of this. since rumors were starting to spread the longer the king did not show his face, the highest level palace employees came up with a plan - find the king’s doppelgänger and put him in place as a regent king until they can find the true king. phoss was then forced to take on the name avery while pretending to be the true king, and carry out all of his duties without being caught as a fake.

extra information ; 
+ due to phoss taking on the identity of avery i will refer to him as avery in all of my roleplay posts and information points here. he will only be referred to as phoss if i'm writing out a flashback, or if someone knows his true identity and addresses him as such. 
+ a regent king is someone who acts as king "for the time being" when the actual king is: still a minor, is absent, adbicated the throne, is incapacitated or dead, or unable to discharge the powers and duties of the monarchy. the true avery became regent king about a year ago after the queen of elves passed, since the process of becoming a fully fledged king would take awhile. after the true avery disappeared there was no one in his position to take over as regent king since the upper palace employees did not want to reveal the he was missing, which is why faux avery is now the acting regent king. 
+ the reason avery knows how to use blood manipulation / magic is because he taught himself in the woods surrounding the town where he used to live. he initially learned it for its medical properties such as changing blood flow for medical procedures, and making transfusions easier. this is not because he wanted to have a medical profession, he just liked to teach himself new and interesting things. he became especially skilled at blood manipulation since he used it pretty regularly to track down wounded animals, and would sometimes even cut himself to produce blood and manipulate it however he could. his sleep & dream related magic is also self taught, because his mother often suffered from nightmares, so he would try to help her sleep better by teaching himself this kind of magic. he specifically learned a more witch-like side of sleep & dream magic, that involves potions, spells, hex bags, etc.
+ avery is extremely intelligent. not only is he very intuitive, but due to his love of learning, has read and taught himself a large variety of subjects from planetary movements to medicinal herbs to combat styles to baking tricks. a lot of this is knowledge that he hasn't had to use before, but will definitely come in handy for him in the future. he also regularly trains his memory by playing mind games with himself that involve memorization, quick-thinking and more.

random other things ;
+ since he has taken the place of the true avery he would obviously have connections to other royalty in and out of the elven kingdom. i would love to have multiple connections to other characters based off this. for example, perhaps if your character is also a member of royalty, your character could have been in the process of courting with the true avery, now replaced by faux avery. or perhaps your character is an elf that grew up near the royal family while working for them, and was one of true avery's "friends" (i say "friends" bc the true avery wasn't very nice, so not a true friend). 

plota ideas ;
+ found out // anyone // unfortunately for avery and the royal staff you happen to have known the true avery quite well, due to a certain set of circumstances. those circumstances could be that you were the true avery's best friend, his relative or even a lover. as such, when you once again meet with avery now, you can immediately tell that something is off. perhaps this isn't even the avery you know?
