he grew up with a distinctive differentiation between them and him. The Alphas and Omegas. It was a peculiar thing, his parents disappointed faces at the fact that he hadn’t presented as an alpha- like them, like his father had expected him to be. The last hope they had had for their children turned out to be a failure too.

Youngkyun learned a lot of hard lessons growing up, especially growing up as a Beta with an Omega elder sibling. Some of the hardest were lessons that he’d learned from his own father. Always lower yourself before an Alpha, stay in your place as a Beta. The most important thing he’d learned being: you look out for yourself, because no one else is gonna do it.

Deemed as useless to his parents, constantly reminded of his “lower” status, ridiculed for being something lesser. Something that he had no control over. Youngkyun just quietly took it all in, content to take all of his parents' anger and resentment if it meant that his hyung could be at ease. Knowing how sensitive the Omega was.

Everything changed the winter he was to be 14. He came home to a strange smell, one he had never smelled before. It smelled like his hyung, but.. Stronger. His worries only seemed to grow as he found both his parents absent, his hyungs distressed voice filling his ears. He moved forward on instinct when he took note of another unfamiliar scent, one distinctly not family.
“Is everything okay, Hyung?” He had said as he neared his brother's door, pausing outside and waiting for an answer. Something in the cloying sweet scent and the way his hyung’s voice lilted in desperation made his hairs stand on end. He pushes open the door, eyes narrowing in on his brother. His poor brother cowered in fear from an unknown Alpha. An Alpha that moved like every stuck up, spoiled, self entitled alpha that Youngkyun had ever met, and that more than anything made Youngkyun want to punch the other male in the face, consequences be damned.

the look he’d seen on his brothers face that night, one of reluctant acceptance, resolve, and determination. One he would never forget, one he wishes he had never had to see, one he still wishes he had been strong enough to prevent. There was nothing more Youngkyun could do other than drag his mauled body away, deep into the forest. away from the sounds of his brother and that Alpha, away from his shame, away from his inadequateness, away from his weakness. Youngkyun looked at his reflection in the surface of his lake. Tired eyes, dark hair, his hair ruffled and unkempt from his scuffle with the Alpha falling over his eyes in gentle waves. Clothes torn and sticking to him in places that were warm and red with blood.

He bit his lip as he shed his clothes, which were essentially ruined, thanks to the stupid Alpha and the smell of his brothers heat. Stepping into the cold water of the lake, he disappears beneath the surface. Grief striking deep within him for his brother, for all Omegas that had to go through something like that against their will. Just the thought of his brother made his chest ache. The water prickles icily at his skin, lungs burning from holding his breath for so long. He takes a desperate breath as he surfaces again. Swimming deeper into the frigid waters as he gently scrubs the lingering scent of Omega in heat and blood from his skin.

That night he lost his brother and what little hope he had left in his own kind.
he has a hard time trusting others and tends to be very Analytical of those around him. he is quick to anger but his temper burns out just as quick, though he can hold a grudge and remembers longer than an elephant. he doesn't like dealing with difficult situations, so if he thinks something is hard and not worth the struggle, it wouldn't be surprising for him to drop it and go on his way. he tends to avoid situations or people that could pose to be problematic for him. life philosophy is: don't do things that are 100% harmful and 0% beneficial.
Hwiyoung has the ability to use Telepathy, compulsion, and telekinesis. he is able to listen to people's thoughts and project his own thoughts. he can search through other's memories and even alter or block them, though because he is a half breed, the ability takes a toll on him if he uses his power for too long he starts to get headaches. while he has the ability to change and block certain memories, it takes a great mental toll on him and could lead to him being sent into a comatose state for a time. similarly, if he overuses his telekinesis ability, the outcome is light headedness and nose bleeds. his ability of compulsion works something like mind control, but the reprecussions are even worse than if he uses the other two abilities. as such, he tends to keep his powers locked up tightly unless absolutely necessary.
though hwiyoung had a rough childhood, not all his memories were ones of sadness. he met wen jackson before he went to fenrir academy to study. the alpha was unlike any of the one's that he'd met until then, and he helped hwiyoung get back on his feet after suffering the traumatic loss of his brother. sadly though, when he went off to study, him and his friend fell out of contact. though he had thought that maybe one alpha wasn't so bad, he couldn't really change his prejudice against them, and his first instinct is always defensiveness and hostile whenever he encounters an alpha. though over the years he's grown accustomed to internalizing his reactions.
Hwiyoung doesn't really care about the friction between packs or the battle between wolves and humans. he himself hasn't had very many run ins with humans and none of them were aggressive or dangerous. as such, his view on humans is neutral. he prefers to stay out of the way and not trouble himself with what others are doing. so long as no one and nothing is threatening him, he will stay in his own lane. though there are always exceptions. he is conditioned to move defensively when he sees an omega being threatened,
an unhealthy mind, even in a healthy body, will ultimately destroy you.
