about me.

new york: what about hyunjin isn't a cliche? immigrant parents, born and raised in the ghettos of new york, divorce sent him back to his hometown. yadiyadiyada. a lot of hyunjin is a cliche, but that doesn't mean he wants to die one. too bad for him, he's on the right track for it.
if being rebellious in high school wasn't enough, he had to get expelled. a past of violence and misbehaviours is not foreign to him. hyunjin's father was an angry alcoholic, who took his frustrations over wasting his immigrant life opportunity on his son. because beating a sick wife wasn't low enough for him. the majority of the beatings he took were to defend his mother, who was struggling enough following a parkinsons diagnosis that halted her music career. his mother had played with the same orchestra as yeojin's mother (pixie from aurora), travelling back and forth from new york to korea and beyond. 
things had gotten bad while she'd been gone. and the less she was able to do, the angrier hyunjin's father became. he soon got fired from his job and decided to move the whole family back to korea. as if things would magically get better there. the biggest fight they'd ever had errupted not long after breaking the news. hyunjin remembers accusing his father of being a "good for nothing piece of excuse for a father" and then he blacked out. taking a full beer bottle to the face that broke his nose and left him with scars faint enough to not araise any suspicions. 
they packed up and left not long after.  
south korea: 
it wasn't long after their move to korea that hyunjin's mother divorced his father. a restraining order was ordered soon after when he broke into their tiny, studio apartment and tried to choke hyunjin to death after he stood up for his family. 
the two haven't heard from or seen his father ever since. 
with just the two of them, they began rebuilding their life. his mother's disease grew worse, and hyunjin picked up every odd job he could to sustain her medication and treatment. funding from his underground rapping songs were little but all contributed to her care. it was through his music composition and rapping that he was discovered by dsf. 
after training for a few months, hyunjin was into the spotlight after debuting with janus. the all boy idol group catered perfectly to his skills, and allowed him to explore music creation. after all, with musical parents, it was hard not to adopt their talent. his unique blend of korean and english lyrics, and stuttered beats landed him a name, with his dancing a cherry on top of the sundae he served. 
nevertheless, hyunjin remains a bit of a pr nightmare for the company. he's rough around the edges (tatted and pierced no less), a bit chaotic, brazenly ual, defiant and more. while he's surely made growth since his youth, he remains stalled in self destructive patterns. 
with the help of friends and music, though, he's sure to come around. 
 
idol life: since debuting, hyunjin really has tried to keep himself in line. he has to constantly remind himself that he is doing this for his mother. with the funds he's received from being an idol, and composing for other groups and soloists, he's been able to send his mother to a top-notch, private care facility where she receives round the clock care. there is no more worrying about how they'll pay for her medication. they left their lease, hyunjin moved into the dorm, and his mother went to the center. 
he rarely lavishes expenses on himself, being a frugal fella. the most he'll indulge on is piercings, tattoos and hair dyes. and gifts to spoil his partner with.

romance & uality 
it has taken a long time for hyunjin to come to terms with his uality. he's known he's liked men since he was as young as 10, when he saw Michael Jackson on stage for the first time (through the tv of course). And then when he had his first and only relationship wtih Jeonghan, a man, it kind of solidified that for him. But with his father being so homophobic, Hyunjin has never felt comfortable coming out. When he was caught with Jeonghan, his father beat so close to unconsciousness that he was hospitalized for a week, and couldn't walk straight for days. 
from that day forth, he suppressed every homoual desire he ever had. tucked it away in a back file on his mind, pretending he could eventually like women. if anyone who understood asked, he was biual, if anyone like his father asked, he loved women and women alone. 
with the help of jungkook and miso, hyunjin has slowly begun to accept himself. he's come out to miso, and obviously to jungkook, and through his boyfriend, has come out to changbin. 
other than that, he leads mostly in the closet still. he's afraid to fully come out because he's afraid of something like the last time happening. maybe not a physical beatdown, but a social media storm. if any news got out... 
whatever the case, he continues every day to challenge his fear. and with jungkook at his side, he feelts he can conquer anything.

appearance
hyunjin tends to sport longer, shoulder length hair that is constantly changing colours, usually thrown into a man bun. he has a series of earrings along his ears, and always changes up the jewelry when he can. along with ear piercings, he sports a tongue piercing, navel piercing and prince albert. 
he has a series of tattoos, most not visible, or easily covered with concealer (to the relief of the stylists).

hobbies
On his down time, when he's not rapping, playing music, or dancing Hyunjin can be found in a small, pottery studio he rents out once a week, making sculptures and creations of all kind and wearing mighty cute denim overalls and not much of anything else. here, he also practices painting, loving especially water colours but dabbling in other mediums as well. it's something he used to enjoy doing with his mom, and that he developed love for over time. if you are ever allowed inside hyunjin's studio, just know you're special.

high school heartbreak:
jeonghan was never expected in hyunjin's life plan. but that's how love worked, right? being who he was in high school, hyunjin was often looked down upon by his peers. jeonghan was of a different social class, a boy of money and fame. 

no one would have ever thought they'd be the most tangled of lovers. 

a heated high school affair, with loads of ups and downs, miscommunications, and first everythings, hyunjin was eventually confronted with a crossroad. with his father wanting to uproot their life away from new york, and jeonghan's mother offering him money to break up with her son, he was more and more convinced that he was worth nothing in this world. and so he made a huge mistake. 

he abandoned jeonghan without a word.

- he is afraid of loud noises (especially fireworks) and will often run to a janus member if similar tech is used during their performances
- he's been diagnosed as adhd but doesn't like to share that information
- he once broke both ankles jumping from one building to another and falling two stories

- in fact, he's broken a total of 12 bones and often dislocates his knee, which is why you'll find him wearing multiple braces during practices/performances

@☼ hwang hyunjin the last kiss lingers on his lips as he watches hyunjin’s back disappear past the door, the ghost of where his finger had so gently thumbed away any remnants of what they hand done. the corners of his mouth slowly turns upwards until he’s full on smiling, teeth and all. His head falls back against the cold tile staring up at the ceiling in astonishment at himself. he doesn’t know what provoked such boldness in him at the moment but he does not he does NOT regret a damn thing.
he catches his bottom lip between his teeth and shakes his head foolishly, his whole body warm and content even as a swarm of butterflies swim in his stomach. oh god he was stupid. jungkook releases a sigh and when he deems it long enough he leaves the bathroom to join the others.
“Jeon Jungkook! I ought to kick your , do you understand how close we are to starting time?”
he drowns out the much deserved ripping that the stage manager is giving him, briefly glancing over to bandmates and then to hyunjin where he gives him a knowing smirk as he fixes his mic pack and ear piece. this was gonna be a looong tour.
