Background: No silver spoon here, but pretty people are still treated as treasures. It can make up for the lack of money and opportunites sometimes, to the point that people create them for the pretty people they want to impress. Taemin's one of few that was born with that power. It started from a very young age where adults would fawn over him and do whatever they could to see him smile. He got used to the candy, stuffed animals and free food he'd typically get for doing nothing more than taking a picture with someone or, more often than not, smiling at them. As he got older, he became more aware of people his age treating him with a bit more bias. It was no longer just the adults. Classmates would give him their lunch or pay for his, offer him their jackets or sweaters, invite him to every party and school event and the list went on.

As he grew closer to his teen years, Taemin found himself at a crossroads. He'd gotten the chance to play around with music and dance, even with his schools in the East never really having enough money to fully fund the programs. The school offered chances to go to the West, some kind benefactor from the other side of the tracks regularly selecting a few students to experience academies in the West. It was no secret that it was typically girls that got picked and the really pretty ones as well. Still constantly mistaken for a girl by just about everyone in the East, Taemin brought the plan up to his parents. He would pretend to be a girl and be able to take that chance. They knew their son wanted to try his hands at an art academy and they knew they'd never be able to afford it. Since they couldn't give his older brother that chance to follow his dreams, albeit a bit reluctant about how they had to go about it, they were excited to help their son acheive his dreams. If things didn't work out, at least he could say he got the opportunity and that he tried. The last handful of his school years were spent in the West, everyone on that side of the tracks only knowing him as Taehee. A whole new identity had been born and he was beyond careful not to mess it up, even more so to let anyone else mess it up. The academy gave him quite a few friends and lots of experience, from dancing and singing and playing instruments to acting and various forms of handmade art, including sculpture, painting and sketching. Throughout his time at the academy, Jimin was a classmate and had become his best friend, though he made sure not to tell Jimin the truth about him being a boy until after graduation so there was no chance his secret could slip from someone else. He still happily keeps in touch with Jimin and meets up with him from time to time when he can.

Back on the East side of the tracks, he became even more gender fluid after his experience living and existing in the West. He never used being pretty to his advantage but would bask in how he was treated, even more so now since people seemed to have become that much more unsure about him being a girl or not. He doesn't get as upset when people make the mistake and, a lot of times, won't correct them anymore either. Changbin is the reason that Taemin is a member of the band now. While helping out at a club to earn some extra money, Taemin had been helping get the stage set up for a show that evening. Changbin had only been there for drinks but got to see and hear Taemin testing and tuning the instruments for the stage. Taemin was approached by Changbin and the rest is history.
