what people cannot understand, they condemn—this is a sentiment that yuying will describe to be true.
when she was born, she hadn’t cried. a year or two later, she quickly learned how to read and speak. almost too quickly, too perfectly, that for a moment, the jiang family had thought she might have been cursed by demons rather than blessed by the deities. there was a sense of ease in the way she would learn things that she shouldn’t have been able to at her age, even topics that adults would have a hard time with. it was this genius of hers that had set the distance between her and the rest of her peers—the rest of the world.
confusion had colored her childhood then, the young lass still unable to comprehend the reason why the world refused to take her in its arms. she was born to the powerful and influential family of jiang, hailing from nanjing, china, owner of a luxury conglomerate that dabbled in fashion and jewelry. she had lived her life isolated from her peers, not by choice, but by the distance the world had put between them. at home, they feared her retaliation, feared what she could do if she had decided to do what she wanted. and so, she was disciplined, so to speak.
kept in a separate building near the main house of the jiang family, it was almost as if yuying was a prisoner in her own home. all she was given were books that she could read, puzzles that she would solve. she wasn’t allowed to be outside without master jiang’s permission, nor was she allowed to interact with people they thought they wouldn’t benefit from. she would only be allowed outside to appear at family gatherings, or during events where the jiang family was invited. anything for a picture perfect image, they’d say.
was she so different that she had to be treated like this, she wondered.
yuying pondered and pondered and pondered, until she reached a conclusion: what humans could not understand, they condemned. what humans could not possess, they got rid of.
even her own family hadn’t known how to connect with her—there wasn’t even an attempt. in her father’s eyes, she was a prized possession, one to be displayed as though she was a trophy that he had carved himself. she wasn’t the jiang family’s pride, but she was its flower. she was the name and face that had held the jiang family for a majority of her childhood.
in her mother’s eyes, she was someone to be envious of. despite yuying being her own blood daughter, her mother was jealous of the attention that her husband had been giving yuying, envious of the youthful beauty that yuying possessed. jiang yuying was twelve years old when her own mother had attempted to murder her, and had almost succeeded—yuying hadn’t made any attempts to fight her mother off. after all, what was there for her to struggle to stay alive when the world had rejected her?
but they were discovered by the maid that had cared for yuying. the maid in question, however, was fired, as the jiang family feared tarnishing their reputation, should word of this escape out of the jiang residence. yuying herself, was sent far away from her mother—to the city of heunjeong in south korea—under the pretense of prioritizing her health.
it was only there that she was able to have a taste of freedom. there were little eyes who watched her movements, and she was finally allowed to do as she wished. life in heunjeong, however, was not so different from back home. there was still a great distance between her and her peers, even as she studied in prestigious schools from highschool to college, earning awards and achievements along the way.
by that point, she no longer felt confused. had she ever even felt sad about what she had experienced? perhaps it was disappointment, but the disappointment had long turned into boredom. life had become so, so dull, when the things she would try became skills that she was good at. and so, she began chasing after something amusing, entertaining. in the beginning, these were random puzzles on the internet. the next it was cases that were referred to as unsolved, and she would send hints to the police about her thoughts, thinking that it was merely a fun hobby.
she was seventeen years old when she started solving official cases for the police as an anonymous tipper. a police officer had approached her, following her tracks, and told her that she could make a name for herself in the heunjeong police department. she was young, and yet she showed so much potential already. and so, at the age of eighteen, she was given the title of a consultant at first, but later that same year, after solving the notorious murder case of the son of a politician, known for its publicity as it was done in the middle of a college party, she was appointed homicide detective by the police department.
news of her achievements traveled far and wide, and it reached the ears of her family back in china. once again, she got the attention of her family—but now, she could see it perfectly: the way they so desperately wanted to keep her under their control, her name perhaps a perfect addition to the trophies the jiang family had long collected. yuying couldn’t yet fight on her own, and so she was once again left wrapped in strings controlled by her family.
she wasn’t called back to china, but she was then given an arrangement—a marriage to a man that was a couple of years older than her. it was to solidify a connection between the families, a partnership that the jiang family had cherished. at twenty-one, she was married to a man she had never even met before.
(and perhaps, this man had shown her the world then, had made her feel understood and seen for the first time in her life. she wouldn’t call it love, no, but perhaps… it was almost that.)
at twenty-four, she lost him to poison. it was a murder case that was immediately filed to the heunjeong police department, and when yuying had stepped up to solve it herself, they refused, saying that she was simply too involved. angry and determined—a surge of feelings that she was only feeling for the first time—she went ahead and moved on her own. she ended up solving the murder herself, the case becoming the talk of the country then, due to the publicity it’s taken.
the truth ended up like this: the poison was meant for jiang yuying. the culprit? the ex-lover of her deceased husband, an actress that the people loved, whom he had to break up with due to his arranged marriage with yuying.
it was this case, however, that had skyrocketed her reputation as a homicide detective. there were mixed reactions toward her success—some would say she was too cold, not even grieving for the death of her husband; while some would say that she was a good wife, for bringing justice to her husband’s death. but there were also those who hated her, simply because they adored the actress that was her husband’s ex-lover. but yuying hadn’t let any of those faze her.
she was free now, more or less, as the jiang family was content to let her live her life then as she had already fulfilled her duty. while yuying became more independent over the years, she would still use her family name in order to get some privileges that she wouldn’t be able to get had she been a normal person. the cases she’d solved over the years only increased, and her demeanor toward these murder cases had given her the nickname the crazy detective, because, well, who else would you see someone so enthusiastically looking forward to getting more cases on their hands, especially ones of this calibre?

personality !
basics.
calm, cold and calculating—yuying is the definition of a winter storm. chaos accompanies her every step despite the elegant and poised aura she possesses, and it is this chaos that provides her a veil of an unusual overwhelming charisma, matched with her flawless eloquence. she is often bored of everyday life, and because of it, she deliberately seeks chaotic situations or puzzling moments that others can’t solve. and if she can’t find it… well, oftentimes she creates these situations herself.
she has a deep understanding of the human psyche and heart, and she uses this knowledge in order to manipulate others to do what she wants them to do. with this understanding of human behavior, she is able to determine to a certain extent people’s thoughts and be able to predict their reactions with high accuracy. with this, she is quite able to ascertain a person’s true nature rather easily, and allows her to distinguish lies from truths.
she’s cunning and charming, but it’s her manipulative nature and search for anything to fend off her boredom that makes it difficult for her to form long lasting genuine bonds. she presents herself in a nonchalant and cheerful manner, with a rather flirty nature if she thinks doing so may as well bring entertainment to herself, but is often downright disrespectful and disdainful when it comes to people she believes are not worthy of her time and respect.
due to her natural genius, she is extremely confident of her abilities and decisions. not only that, she has a rather strong mental fortitude that allows her to keep her composure even amidst stressful situations, merely thinking of such situations as entertaining. the more her life is supposedly threatened, the more she enjoys it—but she enjoys victory more so than anything else, and thus follows a case up to the very end, no matter the truth of the case.

she has quite an incredible background and a notorious reputation. talented and smart even when she was younger, she graduated from university rather early, and was already employed in the detective field even before she had actually graduated. she had solved so many cases even before officially becoming a detective, which had earned both the admiration and envy of people—and of course, the adults’ disdain came with it. but due to her eccentric nature, many people find it difficult to approach her, and some might say the way she seeks excitement is a little off-putting. she is best known for solving the murder case of her late husband during the year 2012, where she was banned from participating.

out of character !
important.
please try to have something in mind and read my profile first before actually talking to me about roleplaying. i am open to brainstorming, but please do not come to me completely empty-handed. reading my profile is extremely important! please never poke me as well, unless it's been 10 days since i last replied or i’ve specifically told you to remind me of replying. otherwise i will drop our thread without a word.
about the roleplayer.
you may call me nana or by my characters’ names. i don’t usually mind which, and would always respond to either of them! you may also refer to me as any pronouns or by my characters’ pronouns, though i don’t personally have any preference. all i ask is that you switch them up every now and then. my timezone is gmt+8, but i tend to be asleep throughout the day, so expect your replies at the most random of times.
about the writing.
i write only in the third pov. most of my replies are multi-paragraphs, but i can go from semi-paragraphs to novella pretty quickly, depending on the muse, the plot and the details that we would both like to emphasize in the thread. even in fast threads, i tend to write multiple lines, but i don’t mind not being mirrored as long as you give me the same energy as i give you, or at least something to work with. i will only write in rooms, and walls, if there is a need for it.
my preferred genres are angst, romance, drama and action—but of course, i can write anything so long as i have the muse for it! i am open to plotting most things, and have very little triggers or limits when it comes to writing, but still do remember to ask me first about things before proceeding with them. i will do the same to you.
i also prefer plotting over winging, as i tend to lose muse easily with winging. it doesn’t have to be extensive plotting either—i only need a backbone for the thread that we’re about to write. starters will depend on the plot: if it makes sense for me to start, then i will; if not, then i will ask you to start.
