subject history.
The history of a Maestro.
❝
Han Yejun was born in a ty motel room in a run-down village in Hualien County, Taiwan. It had been a natural birth, and his mother had done it all on her own—from birthing her son to raising him, he had never known another parental figure than the infamous, esteemed assassin known as Cognoscenti. While others feared the mysterious figure that only left whispers in their wake, Yejun only had one name for her, one title: Mama.Being the son of an infamous, deadly assassin—who also happened to be a single mother—it goes without saying that Yejun went with her anywhere and everywhere. Han Yeseo couldn't leave her precious son with just anyone, so she simply took him along on all her missions—ranging from rural and urban cities in Korea to huge metropolitan cities in Europe, America—anywhere and everywhere her next assignment was. Back when Yejun was still a toddler, Yeseo's victims were entirely perplexed to hear the cry or the laughter of an infant as she ended their lives without mercy. Sometimes, the last thing they would see would be a curious little babe, wrapped in his mother's baby sling as she cleaned him up of any blood that may or may not have spilled onto his skin.
It goes without saying that Yeseo wasn't exactly the best mother—but it would be a long time before Yejun finally realized that.
As Yejun got older, it became apparent that Yeseo couldn't take him on all of her missions. It would be odd, after all, to have her reputation as a dangerous and deadly assassin sullied by the appearance of a child during her hits. And this way, it would be safer—so Yejun's childhood was composed of him "holding down the fort," as his Mama put it. He was condemned to a life of silence in hotel or motel rooms and apartments, cooking his own meals and taking care of the temporary haven he was forced to call home—at least until they moved towns or cities or countries again.
School became an issue for the child, too. Yeseo couldn't really impart him with any knowledge, other than the knowledge needed by an assassin—so she began to enroll him into the schools nearest to their place of temporary residence. In the evenings she was free, she would teach him self-defense, martial arts, espionage—anything and everything needed to make a fine assassin. Yejun slowly grew used to being a temporary, fleeting existence—he couldn't make friends when he would simply move miles away in a few weeks. The only permanent presence in his life was his Mama, who was far too caught up in her own missions to pay any real attention to her sullen, withdrawn teenage son. He would go out and explore the nightlife of each city and town they resided at, and often got caught up with questionable people, questionable places—and Yeseo never knew any better. If she had known, Yejun doubted she would scold him, anyway—at worst, she would only warn him to be on his guard, not to trust anyone. And that was a warning that he never needed to be told once.
Just as Yejun got older, the question of what he would do with his future became Yeseo's main concern. Despite the training she'd given him in all his years, she never wanted him to take up the assassin life. So perhaps decades later, she decided to make a permanent residence in the city of Heunjeong, aligning herself with Manwol's Ramen after she heard whispers of a home base for assassins from some of her connections. She persuaded Yejun to enroll into the local college, telling him to chase his own dreams and become his own person—but how could he do that, when he'd spent too much of his youth traveling from place to place, no time to find his own self?
He tried his hardest, though. He became an Interdisciplinary Studies student—Marketing and International Relations—simply coasting through his university life. He found it boring, to be honest—dull compared to the daily grind of adjusting to a new place and new people. So his mother was quite dismayed when he claimed he wanted to join her allegiance to Manwol's Ramen. He didn't particularly have a passion for killing people, no—it's just that it was what he was used to, and he couldn't stick to a normal life without feeling like he was out of his element, unfamiliar in his own skin.
So at twenty-two, he became an assassin under the alias Maestro. Now this was more comfortable—doing his readings and assignments and papers in a faraway country while he held a weapon in hand, ready to kill his target at a moment's notice. For a few years, his supposed university years as a normal person became quite the opposite, much to his mother's dismay.
But eventually, he was told he would need a day job—no assassin worth their salt didn't have a coverup for who they really were. Yejun spent a few years doing odd jobs for Manwol's before he eventually became a ramen chef—and to the surprise of many, he was actually really good at it. Perhaps years of finding new dishes to cook for himself in ty motel rooms paid off, after all. He became an asset to the restaurant, proposing new dishes and ideas and styles of making new ramen noodles that wowed too many customers and clients. Eventually, his work as a chef was so valuable that going on assassinations would make it difficult for the other chefs to compete with his prowess. It was his mother that suggested he become a handler rather than an assassin instead, pleased with this development. She could see that her son genuinely enjoyed cooking, and wanted him away from the field as much as possible. Yejun accepted the change in assignment quite gratefully—although he occasionally does go on out-of-town missions whenever necessary—content with working in the kitchen throughout the day.
Currently, he intends on going to culinary school someday soon, much to the pride of his mother. While he'd had quite the rough childhood, Yejun's grown into his own person now (although not without his flaws, of course), and it's not entirely certain who's happier with this development—Yejun, or Yeseo?

personality
Confident, flirty, and perhaps the slightest bit egotistical, these are the traits that Yejun's learned over the years as a way of protecting himself from ever really showing his true thoughts and emotions. Yejun's found that it's this temperament of his that keeps people at bay, although he's had his moments of being too vulnerable with the wrong (or right) person. He can be quite flighty for this reason, ghosting people more often than not (although this was much easier when he could up and leave for another city without so much as another word). Either way, Yejun likes to remain a mystery, revealing no part of himself other than his flirtatious nature and alluring smile. He has the tendency to cut people off the minute he thinks they've gotten too close—call it experience from his childhood years.
likes
Not much—Yejun is the type of person to be satisfied with pretty much anything, but he does have an inclination towards delicious food (of course). He also likes nature and being outside, or physical activities of any sort (both indoors and outdoors—although one physical activity that occurs indoors immediately comes to mind). At the risk of sounding questionable and/or scandalous, he tends to gravitate to people older than him. (It might be his mommy issues, but don't tell him that—Yejun has yet to figure that out.) He secretly spends some of his free time watching cheesy rom-coms—but you'll have to kill him to get him to admit that.
dislikes
Again, being an agreeable, casual, and generally easygoing person, Yejun doesn't have too many things he dislikes—except maybe people. Particularly, people that are too stubborn and willful and have no regard for anyone other than themselves, especially when it comes to environments that require cooperation (a very specific certain someone comes to mind, and yes, this is a call-out post). He doesn't like sadness (and in general, things that make him cry—too much emotion). He also has a fear of heights.
hobbies
Other than cooking, he has no other hobbies that he's particularly passionate about, although he does engage in activities such as martial arts, reading, and going clubbing or drinking when he's bored. Really, cooking is pretty much the only thing that takes up most of his time—that is, unless you count flirting as a hobby, because then he finds flirting with a certain florist to be one of his favorite pastimes.
