Jinyoung was always a shy kid. He grew up clinging to his mother's side, inseparable from her. A momma's boy above everything else. She was as much his world as he was his. Jinyoung's father had long left the two of them behind, somewhere in the city, away from this small town. There was little Jinyoung knew about his father, but his mother satiated that curiosity with her affection, perhaps enabling him to love her a little too much. But what mother couldn't resist the love her own child?

Even as he grew into a lanky little preteen, if Jinyoung had to choose between playing soccer with the guys or going home to his mom, he'd choose his mom. It was so bad that his mom would force him to hang out with his friends. But not without reason.

His mother was young, but as she raised Jinyoung by herself and worked full time while homemaking, her energy had noticiably been dwindling down through the years and the older Jinyoung got, the more he noticed. Jinyoung wouldn't want to go home to just hang out with his mom as much as it was about relieving her of her house chores. And his mother loved that she raised her son to be as dutiful as he was even at his age, but she couldn't keep all his time to herself, especially since there was something she was hiding from him: her cancer was back.

Jinyoung's mother was originally from the city, but moved to Dandelion after a bad breakup with Jinyoung's father. She figured the fresh air would be a good antidote to the recent coughing fits she'd been getting from the city smog, coughing fits that unfortunately turned into nausea and vomitting as she settled into town. It had turned out that not only had she been pregnant with Jinyoung, she had stage one lung cancer. It was lucky that they had caught it early, Jinyoung practically saving his mother's life as the chances of her getting a thorough check up would have been slim without him. She couldn't live without him and so she decided to keep him despite the delayed treatments, making sure to be careful with every detail every stage of his life. It was why she doted on him so much and why he was so precious to her even beyond being her flesh and blood.

And now that Jinyoung was older and capable of taking care of himself, it seemed her body had finally caught up to the extra love and energy that she put into him. Her cancer came back aggressively as Jinyoung entered middle school, worsening with every winter until the very end where she was suffering more than living. Jinyoung no longer had to choose between soccer with his friends and his mom because even without his choice, the answer would be his mom. He didn't join a highschool club until after his mother passed away his sophomore year, only now instead of going home to his mother, he was empty. There was nobody to go home to.

Without his mother to guide him, Jinyoung entered his emo art boy phase where he'd write poems about how he felt about death. How unfair life was. Yada, yada, yada. He'd try to recreate his mother from his memory, afraid of forgetting the details of her smile, the sound of her voice. Even as losing his mother was a slow and torturous process, Jinyoung was grateful for every second he had with the most important person of his life.

After the passing of his mother, Jinyoung moved in with his aunt and her daughter(s? *eyes the wishlist*), eventually receiving college tuition from his very absent father who wasn't actually notified of Jinyoung's existance until the funeral. Jinyoung went to art school, expressing his teenage angst into visuals, using his talent later in life in a career of police sketching for the local police department.

Experiencing grief and losing his whole world in one person, Jinyoung went through a long personal journey of finding himself. He's come to grow out of his shell and actively tries to connect with other people in the same way he did with his mother. You could almost say he was trying to fill a whole that could never be filled, but he'd like to view it as spreading around the everlasting love his mother had for him. He has a large need to help others and does it in the way that he can as not only a police sketch artist but as a community volunteer leader as well.
