Description
Demon of Greed: Joy Morningstar
The rise of the Demon King’s rule heralded an age of discord, shattering the celestial order. The heavens trembled when the Eye of Eternity, the divine beacon that illuminated the realms, was banished from existence. The celestial pantheon split into factions, thus igniting the Battle of Brothers—a conflict that endured for centuries. On one side stood the Solar Descenders, loyal warriors of the Demon King, embracing free will and defying divine decree. Opposing them were the Lunar Ascenders, disciples of the Angel King, bound by sacred doctrines and sworn to uphold the unity decreed by the elder Gods.
Among the Solar Descenders, none were as formidable as Mammon, the second eldest of the Seven Sin Siblings. Her unwavering loyalty to the Demon King was legendary, her prowess in battle unparalleled. Skilled, cunning, and ever ambitious, Mammon led her kin into the fray, wielding greed not only as a vice but as an unrelenting force of will. Where others sought wealth for mere indulgence, Mammon saw conquest and dominion.
Yet the war left scars, even upon the mighty. When the bloodshed waned and the thirteen races of Heleo declared an uneasy truce, Mammon found herself grievously weakened. Her once imposing human form became unstable, reduced to nothing more than a flickering green flame, a shadow of her former self. Retreating to the Underworld to recover, she sought a vessel—one bound by lineage, a perfect host to tether her essence back into the mortal realm.
Thus began the cycle. The Park Dynasty, an ancient bloodline, became Mammon’s bridge to Heleo. A single human female from the lineage would serve as her host, adapting to the demonic transformation that came with bearing Greed’s mark. Each incarnation, however, proved fleeting. No host could sustain her forever, their mortality an insurmountable weakness. For centuries, Mammon searched, waiting for one who could endure her presence, one whose hunger for wealth and power mirrored her own.
Five hundred years passed before she found her.
Park Sooyoung was not like the others. A pirate, a rogue who carved her own fate upon the seas of Heleo, she was a woman of ambition, cunning, and ruthless determination. Unlike her predecessors, she did not simply inherit greed—she wielded it, bending fortune and misfortune alike to her will. Mammon watched, waiting, knowing Sooyoung’s inevitable betrayal would come.
And when it did, the moment arrived.
Betrayed by those she had trusted, hunted by constables, Sooyoung’s escape led her to the edge of a raging river. Cornered, she leaped, crashing into the depths below. As her consciousness faded, Mammon seized the opportunity. The transfer was seamless—Sooyoung’s soul was cast adrift in the spirit world, lost to time, while Mammon claimed her body as her own.
No longer was she Park Sooyoung.
She was reborn as Joy Morningstar.
The name of the pirate faded into obscurity, but Joy Morningstar rose in her place, an enigma within Heleo’s shifting tides. With a mortal body tempered by demonic energy, she became something greater than human, yet not wholly demon. A being reborn in ambition and greed, she carved a place for herself within Heleo, ensuring her dominion over the material world would never wane.
She became the proprietor of The Clock and Cog Inn, a place of secrets, dealings, and whispered bargains. No transaction occurred without her knowledge, no fortune changed hands without her consent. Merchants, mercenaries, and nobles alike knew her name, for she was the silent broker of wealth and fate.
Behind closed doors, Joy served the underworld as well, taking many unfortunate souls with her to appease her dear brother Lucifer (Nam) who is ruling the Underworld.
Woman of Temperance: Park Sooyoung
Park Sooyoung was not like the others. Born an orphan alongside her older brother in the Marteria Highlands, she was a brave child despite her brother’s constant caution. Their village was filled with other orphaned children, surviving through theft and deception. Yet, while her brother upheld a sense of honor among thieves, Sooyoung was more reckless, her ambition far greater.
At twelve, her world shattered. She had stolen an ancient rune of longevity from a wealthy researcher, drawing the wrath of mercenaries. During the ensuing chaos, the rune went inside her palm which she thought she had lost it, and the price fell upon her brother—dragged away as punishment for her actions. She never saw him again.
With time, Sooyoung hardened, fighting her way into the ranks of a notorious pirate crew. By sixteen, she was the trusted right-hand of their fearsome captain. Yet her hunger for more never ceased. She sought wealth, power, and recognition, though she kept her greed tempered with restraint. She learned the art of swordplay, deception, and leadership, proving herself in countless raids and naval battles. Sooyoung became known for her sharp tongue, her keen intuition, and her unshakable resolve, earning the respect of those who sailed with her and the fear of those who opposed her.
At twenty-five, she seized control of the ship, leading her crew through countless raids. Under her leadership, the ship became one of the most feared on the seas, raiding merchant fleets, pillaging coastal towns, and outmaneuvering royal patrols. Yet even among her closest allies, distrust festered. The lure of power and the promise of wealth proved stronger than loyalty. Sooyoung was betrayed—her most trusted allies sold her out to the royal marines in exchange for their own freedom and a hefty reward.
Dragged in chains to the capital, she endured brutal interrogations. Beaten and bruised, she was questioned for months on the whereabouts of her remaining crew and the locations of their hidden treasures. Yet Sooyoung refused to break. Even after a year in captivity, she never revealed a single secret, holding onto her defiance despite the betrayals that had landed her there.
One night, a mysterious cloaked woman slipped a key into her cell. The chance at freedom ignited something deep within her. Sooyoung seized the opportunity, escaping under the cover of darkness. Though her hands remained bound, she ran through the woods, her heart pounding with renewed determination. But her escape was short-lived. The guards pursued her relentlessly, cornering her at the edge of a rushing river. With no other choice, Sooyoung leaped.
The icy water engulfed her, dragging her into its depths. The current tore at her, her consciousness slipping away. And as the world faded into blackness, something unnatural stirred within her. Her soul, unanchored, drifted away from her body, lost to the spirit world.
For years, she wandered aimlessly, unseen and unheard, a mere specter of the life she once had. Until, by sheer fate, a Kitsune shrine maiden took pity on her. The fox spirit, attuned to the balance between worlds, recognized the tragedy of her fate. With her aid, Sooyoung set out on a desperate journey—to reclaim her stolen body.
But the body she once possessed was no longer hers alone. It belonged to something far more powerful.
The demon of Greed had claimed it.
And Sooyoung would have to fight to take back what was rightfully hers. With the help of the kitsune, Sooyoung's soul went back to her own body and the realm of consciousness was created for both Joy and Sooyoung. They fought with equal strength but Joy's dominion over her body had outmatched her, she almost had the mortal but Sooyoung is far wiser than Joy could ever have. Sooyoung pushed herself on the edge of the cliff and dragged Joy with her.
Something bizarre happened and their souls merged into one. Joy was shocked to see the rune of longevity within Sooyoung which led to them being merged into one soul.
Both Sooyoung and Joy now agreed to live with this body for the rest of their lives despite each other's contradiction of their personalities.
