Heartbreak. As cliché as it may sound, the sole reason Taekwoon fled into this small town is to nurse his shattered heart. He was born and raised in the big city, in the heart of the concrete jungle he and his family had resides since before he could remember. As a boy he had always have a keen interest for books, always the bibliophile who dwells in the library whenever he had a free time, so much so despite the objection of his whole family of doctors, he chose to dive into the profession of librarian where he crossed path with his first love when she visited the library he was stationed. It is a love at first sight. Taekwoon who had never had any interest to other human being suddenly get infatuated by the beauty with dimpled smile. And they were happy and he was careless. Like any romance novel, the happiness is only the calm before the storm.
Few months before their wedding, when she suddenly became distant, he dismissed the thought thinking that she could have been exhausted from all the wedding planning and her work, and he was careless. Few weeks before their wedding, when she suddenly became increasingly agitated and the number of arguments they had never had before intensified, he should have not believe her when she dismissed his worry with excuses and he was so in love that he was careless. Few days before their wedding, he thought the storm had passed, accepting that forced smile of hers as genuine happiness as he stared into her eyes with all the love his body could contain and he was careless. Few minutes into their wedding, as he was standing on the altar, fidgeting, both nervous and enthusiastic as he waited for his bride to arrive, with smile that spread to his ear only for it to be wiped out in a second. “She’s not coming.” Her sister whispered to him and his world turn black in that very second.
He could not fathom, as he staggered down the altar, with all eyes on him, staring sympathetically, all the sound faded into his surrounding as he wonder why this is happening to him. What sin had he committed for him to be punished in such way? Why is the scenario that he loathed so much in the books he had read, happened to him now? And he barely remembered anything after that incident, his days passed by like blur and he tried his best to act as if he is unaffected but apparently it is not effective as everyone was looking at him with sympathy in their gaze and he hated it to the core. And as if the universe was also sympathising with him, few weeks later he was offered to be transferred to a small town, Dandelion where a new library was established, and without hesitation he accepted that offer. Fleeing away from his past, to start over at new place, with no one but himself.
