• grew up in her mom's small snack bar, helping out whenever she could.
• learned to make food with love from her.
• mom lost the snack bar due to increasing prices, and jobs were hard to find so they would move from apartment to apartment until they were able to rent one of their own again.
• initally planned to start a job that could bring the two easy money but was swayed by home-ec teacher to pursue her passions in culinary arts.
• ended up participating in a competition for junior chefs and things started looking up from there.
• mom was able to find a stable job and val ended up getting hired as a food writer while still doing her studies.
• her dream is to be able to open the snack bar again and give mom her dream vacation.
