chapter one

Umida Ivanova and her younger sister, Karina Ivanova, were both born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan to a Russian–Uzbek father and Korean mother. For the first eight years of her life, Umida enjoyed her childhood as much as she loved to look after, play with, and teacher her baby sister all the things that brought little Umida joy. Braiding the girl's hair, painting her face like their mother would put on makeup in the mornings, helping Karina learn words in multiple languages. The simple life in Uzbekistan came to an end though once their family packed up and moved to the big coastal city of Los Angeles, California.

Their father was a greatly intelligent investor in a tech startup that eventually grew to be one of the biggest IT solutions provider in the United States. The Ivanova family soon became members of the upper class with wealth worth tens of millions. They then lived a cushy lifestyle in their new home as Umida was enrolled in private schools and studied hard to make her parents proud as well as to guide her sister along the right path.

She and Karina both bonded over their passion for music, Umida taking great interest in Kpop and Korean culture as a young tween. While her sister was working hard to follow in their father's footsteps in the tech and business industries, Umida was much more occupied delving deep into the glitz and glamour of the pop world. She curiously began teaching herself the lyrics, choreographies, and makeup styles of her favorite idol groups.

Before long she began studying to be a cosmetologist, taking college classes before she even graduated from highschool until finally entering cosmetology school with her parents' consent. All the while Umida also was running a YouTube channel where she gave Kpop-inspired beauty tutorials, skincare routines, and product reviews. Her channel quickly gained subscribers and attention from K-Netizens who were falling in love with the unique looks and useful advice Umida gave online. Her success grew big enough that many Korean brands would send her free items for reviews, approaching her for modeling gigs or collaborations, drawing more and more career opportunites towards her motherland.

After much contemplation, Umida eventually made the decision to move to Seoul, South Korea so she could maintain the upwards momentum of her blossoming career. Once gaining her work visa, the young woman instantly made connections and started to work as a professional makeup artist all across the entertainment industry. Many of her gigs included doing makeup looks for runway models, photoshoots, personal stylings, and even Kpop idols. Every now and then she'd become the model posing in front of the cameras herself as her unique and "foreign" features captured hearts.

Just when things were starting to flourish did her beloved sister Karina join her in Seoul after being accepted as a trainee under Lotus Entertainment. Suddenly Umida was working even more with her sister's company as she was hired on to do makeup for music videos, stage performances, idol photoshoots, events, practically everything. Being so close to the idols she loved and grew up studying, Umi often would practice singing or dancing group choreographies along with her clients backstage, simply taking moments to have a bit of stress-free fun when possible.

It didn't take long for her other talents to be noticed by company staff as shortly after her own sister began training, a Lotus scout approached Umida asking her to audition. Naturally she took her sweet time considering this new possibility and wondering if it was worth the risk to give up focusing on her original dreams just for the chance to become one of the shining stars on stage she'd always imagined herself becoming.

Despite her reservations, in the end she gave it a chance after her sister excitedly encouraged the older to join in sharing the same aspirations. Thus Umida attended auditions and successfully passed, officially becoming another trainee under Lotus alongside Karina. Although she is permitted to continue her online activities and pick up a few makeup gigs on her days off, she now is committed to her training so that one day she can smile beside her precious baby sister in front of the whole world.
