Scouted at the age of 12 from his school's drama class performance, Yibo tried to prove his parents that his young and naive decision was not a mistake. The school stuff, like learning the language was not his cup of tea, but everything that was involved in the training, he'd ace it. His innate talent and the fact that learning lines for small, insignificant roles helped him actually learn some useful vocabulary, Yibo soon became a young aspiring actor. Life wasn't easy even after the debut, and the young impressionable child turned into a hardened shell of a man. Roles came easier as a child.

as a teenager, being casted into teenage romance dramas set in korean high schools, he would usually play the foreign exchange student second male lead. his management tried to push him into the main male lead role, but yibo had bigger ambitions. he did not want to just be a romantic interest, he wanted to be the hero, or the villain. however, the management liked his growing popularity among the fanbase as it was and never wanted to get him auditions for the action-based stories. not only did they not believe that he would be capable of being the strong, brave soldier, but yibo's constant reiteration of his aspiration drove them to do the exact opposite of obliging. 

He started to look down upon the cliche romance dramas. He wanted more, something unique, something that would make him skyrocket in popularity and world in a different genre. Work was work, and fame was not all that to him. by the time he was fairly famous, he missed home and his family. his management kept him on a short leash, which involved them often bringing up celebrities that lost everything to unfortunate relationships and flings. even friendships were scarce for the young actor, because his management did not want him to "hang around the wrong crowd". everyone had to be approved by his management, and sooner than later he grew tired of it, and rather turned to solitude. thanks to that choice, he picked up many hobbies he dove into head first, and when they proved to be good distractions, he spent most of his free time perfecting and practicing things he enjoyed.

those hobbies were not always to the management's liking, especially his inexplicable interest in extreme, dangerous sports. However, they could not deny him that. on the other hand, when yibo showed interest in dancing and singing, his management jumped right into creating a schedule in which he had proper coaches and choreographers to work with in hopes that some day he might be one of the perfect, vesitile idols for the company.
