About Him -
Name: Byeon Woo Seok
Age: 32
Occupation: Criminal Lawyer
Personality: Unexpected, randomly charming, most of the time mysterious, selective talkative (especially with his close friends)
1991: He was born in an average family - father worked as a history teacher and mother, a fulltime housewife. He has one older brother and two older sisters.1999: His mom gave birth to another younger sister but she was given away to his aunt who lived in New York since they were unable to a conceive child. For the first time, at the age of eight years old - he flew to the USA where he traveled to lot of beautiful places and met people of different colours and races.
2002: Aged eleven. His teacher asked him, "What is your favourite subject?" The young Woo Seok simply said History, despite it not being part of the elementary school curriculum. (They studied General Knowledge instead).
2005: His father lost his job due to his involvement with corruption in the disciplinary board. His father reportedly received money from wealthy families to cover up disciplinary cases involving their children. Aged 14, his parents divorced, and his mother left the siblings with his father. The mother's location remained unknown, and she never reached out to any of the siblings. In the same year, his father remarried the daughter of one of the wealthy families he had assisted in covering up their sons' cases. However, his father only took his older brother with him and left the remaining siblings with their paternal grandmother in Jeollado. Two months after living in the countryside, his eldest sister went missing.
2010: His sister's whereabouts remained unknown, while his second sister was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. His father took his sister to live with him for treatment sessions. That was the first time he met his father since 2005. His grandmother told him that his eldest brother went to the USA for his tertiary education. His father only looked at him once and left. He then graduated from high school as the nation's top student, scoring 400 on the KSAT exam. He received numerous offers from top universities in South Korea.
2011: He took a military leave from his studies and enlisted in the Maritime service for two years.
2013: He continued his studies but decided to change his major to law. He originally studied computer science but met a law graduate from Kyunghee while in the Army, which made him change his mind about his future career path. His eldest sister returned home with two sons (as informed by his grandmother). He returned to Jeollado to meet with his sister, who told him about her disappearance. Apparently, she received a call to live with their mother. The two of them then migrated to Tokyo, Japan, where they started a new life. Their mother remarried a top businessman in Japan, and his sister furthered her studies at the Business School of Tokyo University. She did not apologize for her disappearance and kept telling him about her luxurious life in Tokyo, unaware that he did not have a luxurious upbringing with his grandmother. She only stayed for three days before returning to Tokyo with her two sons. His nephew did not know how to speak Korean, so they did not have a conversation. He offered to send her to the airport, but a branded car arrived to pick her up. She waved him goodbye and left a large sum of money with his grandmother, saying it was a gift for taking care of her siblings. His grandmother took the money with tears in her eyes and gave it to Woo Seok, saying it was meant for his studies.
2015: He graduated early from his law degree and enrolled in law school. His grandmother passed away, and no one from his family attended the funeral. He then moved to an apartment, renting and sharing rooms with like-minded people. He also received news that his second sister was now free from cancer and currently pursuing her education in the United Kingdom.
2018 - present: Graduated from law school and subsequently passed his bar exam. Landed a job as a criminal junior lawyer in the greates firm in South Korea with salary of 7,908,284 KRW per month. Despite that, he still lives with his friends in the apartment.
In-details analysis about him:
He rarely expresses his emotions, whether in critical situations or joyful ones - he somehow maintains a neutral expression. He also doesn't share his feelings with others, as evidenced by his timeline where he focuses on the events of his life rather than the emotional aspects. He doesn't know whether he should harbor resentment towards his family or simply ignore them for what they did to him. As a result, he struggles to describe his feelings towards his family. He is a good person, but he keeps things hidden to the point where people might perceive him as insincere or uncomfortable to befriend.
He never says no to others, which often leads to misunderstandings, especially among his friends who know how difficult his life has been (working part-time while pursuing his law degree and attending law school, yet still saying yes when others ask for help).
When he hears about the successful lives of his siblings, he doesn't know how to feel. He acknowledges their success but doesn't expresses strong emotions. When he became a top criminal lawyer (after five years in the industry), his father reached out to him and asked about his life. However, he politely declined to rekindle the broken relationship, knowing that any pleasure on his father's part would come with hidden motives (he received news that his father's son, technically his step-brother, had done something bad that could tarnish his school's report, so his father reached out to seek assistance in covering up his "new" son's mistakes). Woo Seok is not like his father, willing to accept money for the benefit of the corrupt.
As for his relationship with his siblings, he would describe it as thin air - it exists, but he cannot see or feel it.
