Seokwoo always felt like he didn't belong anywhere. Born to a human mother and a vampire father, he was never at home in either world. He never knew his sire, and his mother died soon after his birth, leaving him to be raised in an orphanage. Not having anyone in his life who could explain his vampire side to him, it took him years to understand why he felt like an outcast among the children he grew up with.

Seokwoo's human side allowed him to try and blend in, but he was never comfortable because of his neverending desire for blood. He could eat human food, he could handle sunlight in moderation, he could even sleep occasionally, but his taste for blood always created a distance between himself and others. Through the years, he'd had lovers who had supplied blood to him, but the relationships rarely lasted. Seokwoo didn't want to turn anyone - - he saw his vampire half as a curse. Once his lovers realized he wasn't going to offer them immortality, they'd either return to their human world or they'd find another vampire who was only too happy to turn them.

After several centuries, Seokwoo avoided humans, turning to animal blood to survive. His trust in humans was nonexistant, though there was a part of him that still dreamed about meeting a human lover who would be devoted to him.
