► looking at yanlin, you wouldn't expect him to have been born in the great kore'lune district. he doesn't have the makings of one of those high people. he's a swamp creature now, but he wasn't before. he was born in kore'lune, son of a wealthy family, and grew alongside a similar boy who he always fancied he'd grow up to marry. but such things only happen in fairytales. 

► stolen in the night by a witch from the bogs of lyathrius, li mei disappeared from the grand district of kore'lune and was instead raised in the swamp by his new 'mother'. at one time he fancied that he'd one day return to kore'lune and find his friend but as the years wore on the hope of ever leaving lyathrius faded and yanlin... accepted that he would stay in the swamps. that he'd never see that boy again. 

► mysteriously, the witch dies when she's taught yanlin everything she can. it was, of course, the natural course of things. yanlin takes on the role of the witch in the swamps. whispers spread that men who visit the new witch return entranced. yanlin has nothing to do with it, but if his fairy blood and his power make him irresistible, well. there's a loneliness that must be filled, but never can be by the companions he keeps from time to time.
