There was a young boy that was born in the Malarbosh Woods to a Beastfolk mother. She raised him for two years among the trees and dirt, only leaving him when she was called to do the Jabberwock's bidding. It was during one of these calls that she brought the child with her to the battle. She lost the child and died on the sword of a Red Kingdom knight.

When the Beastfolk retreated they did not notice the child. When the Red Kingdom left the battlefield they did not notice the child.

It wasn't until a family of farmers was walking past the carnage that someone noticed the boy who had been left by himself. These farmers, believing the boy to be a person like them, took him in to raise him as one of their own.

The family celebrated the arrival of their newest addition, and they affectionately named him Silas.

Silas was a happy child. The family that took him in treated him as if he was part of them from the very beginning. He had two loving grandparents and a plethora of siblings and cousins to play with and talk to.

They moved from place to place for a few years due to the conflict destroying their newest home nearly every couple of months. Then they finally settled on a small farming plot just far away enough that it could become their permanent home.

Once he was considered old enough to help out Silas did his best to assist the older members of the family on the farm. They didn't force him into laborous tasks, but when he begged to help they would give him smaller duties like watering the strawberries and feeding the chickens.

Life was simple, but it was good and happy, and that was enough for Silas.

And then he heard the call.

The boy did not know of his Beastfolk origins. It was because of this that he could not prepare for the horrible events that were about to unfold.

At the tender age of 13 the boy was considered grown enough to answer the Call of the Jabberwock.

He could not fight it, for he did not even know what it was. The boy could only succumb to the call as it revealed the true beast that had layed dormant within him.

Where there once was a boy was now a monster.

Compelled by the Jabberwock this monster did what all monster do. It killed.

The boy's family did not stand a chance of surviving. They could not combat the beast's sharp claws or its razor-like teeth. It towered over them like they were ants, and when it was done it left nothing but rivers of blood and flesh inside that little house.

When Silas came to he found himself bathed in the blood of his family. A baptism for the beast.

He cried to the sky. He begged for his family to forgive him. He screamed that he was sorry, that he didn't mean to, that he didn't know.

But no amount of tears and apologies was going to bring them back.

Although he knew he was a beast Silas did not have any other connection to the Beastfolk that lived in the woods. Just like his family he had grown up to be terrified of them, and now he was equally as scared of himself.

So he ran in the opposite direction.

Away from the woods and towards the heart of Wonderland. The city and its bright red palace in the distance, looming over everything.

Silas made it to the lower districts of the city and has been there ever since. At first he got caught up with the wrong crowd; gangs and the like who used kids to run their things back and forth. It was the only kind of job Silas could get at the time until he was older.

He still could not resist the Call of the Jabberwock and there were more than a few instances of him losing control. Some of these moments nearly led to him being caught, though he managed to escape detection, if just barely.

Now, in the current day, Silas has left behind the gangs of the lower distict and made his way to the mid-level of the city. There he works in one of the lesser known teahouses as a waiter, though whether he'll have the job for much longer is yet to be seen.

He lives in the basement of a builing located in the lower districts where he has a room to lock himself in when he's forced to transform into a beast, in the hopes that he won't hurt anyone and won't get caught by the Red Kingdom.

It's not ideal.

It's certainly not the joyful life he had as a child.

But he is surviving, and that's got to count for at least something.

⚔︎ — personality & details

Silas would be the first person to tell you that he is a coward and a liar. He is terrified of himself and he knows that he's a danger to others, but his will to live is much stronger than his will to not hurt other people (though that's pretty strong too).

He often seems nervous or anxious because he's constantly worried about his Beastfolk status being discovered. If that happens the best case scenario would be him being run out of the city; the worst case scenario is being caught by the Red Kingdom's knights and brought to the palace, most likely to be put down like a sick animal.

When he isn't looking over his shoulder or scared at the thought of hearing the Jabberwock's call at any moment, Silas can sometimes be nice to hang around. He makes an effort to listen when people are speaking to him, and more often than not he's genuinely interested in what you have to say. He likes to learn and that's part of why he enjoys his job at the teahouse since he gets to hear so many different stories from a variety of people.

♦ Silas is a Beastfolk that has a "normal" form which means he has an appearance like any other citizen of Wonderland, and then his Beast form in which he has sharp teeth and claws, fur, yellow eyes, etc. He may also sometimes display a half transformation where he has some beast characteristics but is still in a mostly humanoid form. An example of his beast form is shown below:



♦ Silas has a strong enough will that he is able to resist the Call of the Jabberwock for a short period of time. This can range from two to ten minutes. If he's in public when he hears the call he will rush home as quick as he can before the full transformation takes hold, that way he can lock himself inside so he won't hurt anyone or reveal his true nature.

♦ His name, Silas, means "of the forest." His family named him this because of where they first found him; at the edge of the Malarbosh Woods.

♦ Although his last name is Reunum he does not use it as he believes he can no longer claim it as his. Not after he killed them all. He has no right to wear the same name.
