The Past
On the outside Yunho's life was sunshine and rainbows. His parents were loving and showered him with love and gifts as he was growing up. Both of his parents were successful in their fields, with his father being a skilled lawyer and his mother owning a growing cosmetics and design company. Nothing seemed wrong for the family and Yunho made sure to be the perfect child for his parents as well, despite how everything was actually at home. Behind closed doors they were a very different family. His father liked to drink and had a short fuse when he did so taking out the stress and anger of cases on his family, mostly on Yunho's mother. When Yunho was young he didn't really understand what was happening but as he got older he started to understand the screaming and yelling that would happen, and his mothers tears often falling from fights with her husband.
It took Yunho some time before he finally started to stand up to his father. He was still young at the time, maybe 8 or 9, but he was happy to be able to take the attention form his mother. He often explained away the bruises with friends and teachers by playing a little rougher on the playground and explaining it was just a kid. Accidents happened to kids. He kept up the appareance that everything was fine at home, never stepping a foot out of line as he focused on his studies, mostly to try and appease his father, as he worked towards following in his footsteps and going into law. He was still a happy child, playing with freinds and always trying to make more, which was how he came to befriend the shy transfer student who spoke in broken phrases. He made it his mission then to learn Chinese more fluently to make sure he was able to communicate with Yeosang more freely.
Things continued on for another year or so before things really kicked off at home and things started to change. His mother's business was doing better and better and she was clearly earning enough money to support the whole family now. After a series of bad cases his father's practice was failing and he was starting to take to drinking more. With more drinking, came more beatings and both Yunho and his mother struggled to placate the male every day to stop the beatings. One day, when he was 13, Yunho returned home from school to discover his father was already there and already drunk. He walked into the kitchen to find the man had beaten his wife to unconciousness and now sat straddled over her a knife in his hand as he pulled it from her chest. Without thinking for his own safety, or anything in that moment, Yunho grabbed his own knife from the counter and ran up on his father plunging the knife into his back. This started a fight between the two where Yunho did his best to defend himself, getting a few injuries in the process but mostly managing to avoid his father's sluggish moves until the man finally collapsed down bleeding on the kitchen floor.
It had taken Yunho a few moments before he realised he needed to do more still. Ignoring his own injuries he called emergency services and explained what had happened as best he could frantically over the phone while he used his free hand to try and compress the wound on his mother's chest that was still oozing blood. He could tell she was still alive and continued to beg for emergency to come and save her. All three mmembers of the family were taken to the hospital where Yunho was left in a room alone with a police officer as he was treated. He answered every question, finally being honest with the years of abuse they had faced, questioning whether his mother was ok and whether they would be safe from his father. Given his young age, he was permitted to stay in the hospital under guard while the police investigated what was happening.
Thankfully his mother pulled through her injuries, though she was very weak and was mostly unconscious the whole time. His father had not been so lucky. Yunho had believed his father had planned to kill his mother, but found it that he knife he had been using wasn't enough to kill her, unlike the knife he had driven into his fathers chest. Yunho found that he didn't care all that much that his father was gone, as long as his mother was alright he was happy with the outcome. Given his father's job he was aware of how much trouble he was in, so he made sure to spend that short time with his mother, focusing on her healing and not sharing the details of what he had done. It was only a few days after the incident that the police came to him once more and explained that they had found evidence that his mother was planning on leaving his father and taking Yunho with him, showing documentation of a lot of the trauma they had been through together. Given the situation Yunho had walked into they believed that the attack was justified and that his father's death was an unfortunate outcome. They told him they wouldn't be pressing charges given the situation but did talk to him about other options he could have taken to keep them both safe if anything bad were to happen in the future.
While is mother recovered Yunho spent as much time as he could. He would often sneak away from school to visit her at the hospital only leaving when forced to do so, where he would return home with Yeosang spending the time at his Aunt and Uncles place. He barely slept or ate at those times, doing just enough to not upset Yeosang. Once his mother was back home and he was allowed to go back home things started to break down for Yunho. No longer running on anxiety alone the nightmares came in full force resulting in him waking after only a few hours of sleep screaming in pain and anguish over the percieved results of the dream. Seeing his mother was always enough to calm him back down but rarely did he get more than a few hours sleep at a time. Everyone knew about what had happened at that point, at least that they had been attacked and his father had been killed. Rather than explain to everyone what had happened, Yunho spent his days at school listening to people praise his father for defending the family from whatever attacker was there, with many offering Yunho condolances for loosing such a good man. No one judged Yunho for retreating from his happy persona, understanding that he needed time to mend after loosing a family member.
As soon as was possible his mother put him in therapy to help him come to terms with everything that happened. He hated going to speak to the therapist, being forced to relive the moments in his past over and over again as they tried to work through the trauma caused, each session just pushing him further and further away and building on his anxieties and fears. They prescribed him Paroxitine for his depression, Clonazepan for his nightmares and Diazepam for his anxiety and Yunho found that the almost mindless state he found himself in each night with the combination of drugs was the only time he felt nothing at all which gave him peace. He could finally sleep, a smile returned to his face for most of the day at school and he seemed to be getting back to himself. He was still distant, prefered to spend all his time with Yeosang or at home, didn't respond in class and was still very jumpy. Any time he was near blood he would completely shut down mentally.
When school finished each day and Yeosang left to do whatever it was that he did in the afternoons, Yunho started to explore other options. It took a few years before he fell into the drug culture completely. He'd started abusing his own prescription medications, to looking for similar things on the streets, to trying just about anything he could get his hands on. He kept up with his schooling, kept a smile on his face and showed signs of progress to everyone around him, but once he was free from school he took to the streets and let his inner demons become outer demons. He found a group he could spend all his time with, dabled in different drugs, and rarely returned home until the early hours of the morning getting just enough sleep to repeat the process the next day. He had something he could take at school to give him a boost to get through the day that no one seemed to question. The more he dabbled with the drugs, the more it became obvious until finally his mother couldn't let him continue.
When he was 16 she enrolled him in a rehab and mental health clinic in Japan that was supposed to be good for helping people and keeping it private with little to no outside influence. At first Yunho swore to get help so he could come back home, seeing how much it distressed his mother but once he was free in Japan the chance to just run wild took hold. There was no one to hide his dark secret from now. Despite Lost Angels being well equipped to handle one teenage boy, Yunho somehow kept finding a way out and into the streets where he would run rampant for a few days before ending up back at the center, on activated charcoal to counter the drug binge he had just been on. It was during his time that he first met Wooyoung. He spent most of his time sitting with the other, just talking nonsense and enjoying the time he had, not focusing on why either of them were there, just trying to help them both get through everything.
Each time Yunho was brought back, it was longer before he would run away again. In the 2 years he was at the facility he saw many different people coming in and leaving again, the last 9 months or so of his stay much clearer mentally in his mind before he was finally deemed well enough to go home. He remembered pieces of his time at Lost Angels, but mostly tried to ignore everything about that time. Being back home brought back the nightmares and the anxity, but his medication did well to counter that and he found himself having no desire to abuse it further. In the time he was away his mother had grown their business bigger once more and Yunho had to adapt to life in a higher standing than he was even as a youth. They had never wanted for anything but now he had an adundance of everything he could want. He quickly took to helping her as much as he could, finishing off his school slowly through special corses that he enrolled in to make sure he didn't fall too far behind, before entering into University.
The Present
Yunho's life is still a mix of turmoil. He still breaks down over blood, though now it's mostly in large quantities finding little cuts much easier to deal with now. He still hates knives and avoids them as best he can to the point he wont cut up vegetables or anything for meals unless he has no other option, often begging someone else to come over if he needs the help with it. Because of this Yunho often visits his mother at night, or orders in if he can't get someone to come over to his place. Nightmares still trouble him regularly, he often makes sure to take (too many) medication if he is going to spend the night with someone else so that he doesn't wake up from a nightmare in the middle of the night, not wanting anyone to witness that and learn of his past. The only person he's slightly comfortable with seeing that is Yeosang, though he tries to avoid that as well.
There are times where Yunho like to take his sleeping pills every night just for the freedom it gives, letting him slip back into that drug dependancy for a little while before someone notices that he's out of it and can generally pull him back. There are times where the guilt of what happens hits him, and though he knows that he did the right thing (and would do it again), he can't help but think there was another option that he could have taken, or if he has said something sooner he could have got them out of the situation without all of the baggage that came with it. He tries to always have long sleeves to cover the scars on his arms, both from the drug abuse and from the defensive wounds he got fighting off his father. There are still people that associate him with what happened but Yunho always lies to those people saying that he's happy his father could save them and he doesn't remember what happened while he is conscious, making jokes that they would need to see his dreams to know anything.
Forgive yourself first. Let go of past hurts and direct your spirit to goodness and hope.
Summary
Yunho is a very soft and kind in everything that he does., though he has his moments where rage and aggression take control and he looses himself. Though this is very short lived. He is always cautious in his words, and doesn't like to hurt people with his words.
