Part I

• Before the apocalypse, Jongin's sister was tragically murdered. His career with the NIS came to an abrupt end when he used classified information to track down her killer.

• At the onset of the apocalypse, Jongin aided the general public in finding refuge in a nearby shelter, where he unexpectedly encountered his sister's murderer. What began as a simple act of salvation soon twisted into a dual hunt: not only were zombies a threat, but Jongin himself also pursued the murderer with relentless ferocity. Rather than executing immediate vengeance, Jongin chose a more insidious route. He befriended the murderer, shielding him from zombie attacks, and expertly crafted a facade of trust atop a deep-seated pyramid of hatred concealed within his psyche. His sole objective was clear: to personally witness the demise of the man who had destroyed his sister.

• Soon after, Jongin's darkest wish was fulfilled. He and the man ventured miles from their usual haunts in search of food. Silence lingered between them until the man unexpectedly divulged his deepest secret. He confessed to murdering a young woman and lamented the fortune squandered on lawyers. He expressed a preference for prison walls over the desperate, nomadic existence of the hungry and homeless. Jongin responded only with silence, his lips sealed tight. He explained the motive for his heinous act; the woman seemed to belittle him. He despised her gaze, the arrogant lift of her brow, and the haughty air she carried like a peacock strutting its plumage. When he asked for her number, she dismissed him outright. In his rage, he grabbed a brick from the pavement and savagely struck the back of her head. As she lay bleeding, he dragged her to a secluded corner, shielded from the eyes of the public. He stripped her bare and subjected her to indignities that no rational being would conceive. He captured hundreds of photos and broadcast them across the internet.

• Jongin's fists clenched tightly; he could have ended the murderer's life in that instant. However, a swift death was too merciful a fate for the man who had stolen his sister's life. Over the next three days, Jongin played a calculated game of retribution. He laced the man's water with hallucinogenic drugs, ensuring that none of his actions while unconscious could haunt his waking thoughts. He also injected slow-acting poisons—a technique he had honed as a NIS agent—into the man's veins, gradually weakening him. Throughout the day, the man frequently questioned why he tired so easily compared to before they departed from the shelter. Jongin responded with feigned nonchalance, suggesting that the air was simply not as pure as it once was within the safety of their refuge.

• The events that followed were a secret Jongin resolved to forever bury within himself. Covered in blood, he sought sanctuary in a nearby colony, pleading for aid. However, his plea nearly cost him his life, as the residents mistook him for a carrier of the zombie virus.

• Life in the colony unfolded smoothly for Jongin, as he adapted to daily existence and assisted the group in their efforts to survive. Yet beneath the surface of his seemingly tranquil life, his hands were stained with blood; he had taken a soul, one not entirely innocent. Jongin was acutely aware of the moral transgression, but no remorse could resurrect his deceased sister. Thus, he resigned himself to his actions. It was a secret that would be sealed forever within the depths of his heart.
