The Story

Part I

chapter i

From the moment Yeonjun entered the world, it was clear to everyone that he was bound for a life of greatness.

A handsome little boy, born to two doting parents and with a disposition as sweet as can be; nobody could place what made him so enchanting. It was an unspoken quality that captured the love and attention of everybody who met him. During his Doljabi, where his parents had decided to do both a traditional and modern ceremony, little Yeonjun did not hesitate to select both the rice and microphone, reassuring his parents that he would grow up to live a life of plenty and that he'd make a name of himself.

His father, Choi Dongmin, was a handsome orthodontist who owned his dental practice in the Gangnam-du district of Seoul. His mother, Choi Yeonhee, was a stay-at-home mother and Yeonjun's namesake, for he was the spitting image of her. Three years later, Choi Yeonkyung, Yeonjun's sister, was born, rounding out their perfect little nuclear family.

Yeonjun had an incredibly happy childhood, where he and his sister were never left wanting anything—but they never took their good luck for granted. Although considered borderline upper-class, Yeonjun's parents insisted that their children knew the value of hard work, showed kindness to all, and never assumed that the world owed them anything.

Part II

Chapter I

This section is also tbd upon plotting on other muses. Part II.Chapter I to include the following:

— Who discovered Eternity, and Yeonjun's reaction to it.

— Their life there, and balancing it with the real world. I don't think Yeonjun really cared for Eternity outside of goofing off with his friends and having fun in this secret, magical world that was just for them.

— When the problems with Eternity comes up, he's the one(or one of the ones) to suggest they get out of there because uh, duh, they're kids/pre-teens and just because there's a 'prophecy' doesn't make it their problem. Eventually he is convinced by the others to stay and help, although he's not happy about it. He does grow to care for the people/creatures that they need to protect, but he's not as 'in love' with the world as the others are. NEW! 22/06/24 - what Yeonjun does figure out, i've decided, is that yep, he's super hella gay and in love with his four best friends. Yeonjun won't say anything about it tho cause it scares the hell out of him so the others won't(unless pre=plotted) know about it.

— The thing that makes them leave happens, and Yeonjun finds that he's become distant from the rest of the group because unlike the rest, he never committed or was interested. He tries to hold onto the friendship with the others but it's not working. NEW! 22/06/24 - sus out idea with other muns about Yeonjun making a decision in reaction to the big thingy to take them out of Eternity w/o consulting them first. Not sure if committed to that idea.

chapter II

✶ ⁞ trigger warning。 non-descriptive character death, body horror and injury.

It took some time, but Yeonjun began to feel like the tension between him and the rest of the group was easing. Eternity was closed off—seemingly forever—and their abilities remained —just the dregs. Instead of waging magical warfare as child soldiers or navigating the political storms of Eternity's monarchs, Yeonjun now focused on acing tests and completing homework on time—and navigating his ever-growing feelings for his four closest friends.

Things were finally getting back to normal.

So it wasn't strange that a few months later, as the year-end exam season was beginning to ramp up, Yeonjun fell ill with the flu. It was rough; Yeonjun spent the week tossing and turning in bed, feverishly dreaming of Eternity and the traumas it had inflicted upon him, until finally—something extraordinary happened.

The fever burned out of him. Literally.

That night came to him in bits and pieces.

Yeonjun's first clear memory came in the form of excruciating pain, screaming himself awake in an ambulance until the paramedics could get him still enough to sedate him. His next was slowly coming to the ICU unit alone, cold, and with the horrific memory of what he'd done fresh in his mind. Underneath the bleach and antisceptic, he could still smell the charred flesh of his sister's body, alongside the image of his parents collapsed on the floor, shielding Yeonkyung from his flames.

It wasn't a freak gas explosion that caused the fire, the authorities declared after a lengthy investigation. Yeonjun knew that they couldn't explain what happened, that they'd never know or understand. He knew, though. But Yeonjun knew the truth: it was his fault. He'd killed his family. Eternity had killed his family.

He'd never cared about that goddamn place like the others, and it'd clearly taken its revenge.

Yeonjun's rage and hatred festered, depression clinging at the edges of his mind, as while his body slowly healed over time, his emotional and mental state slipped into a rut. It was relentless, this relentless fatigue, anger, and the paralyzing fear that Eternity would claim more from him. Yeonjun couldn't endure it any longer. He refused to dwell on Eternity or endure this terror, unable to even think of his friends without associating them with the horrors of that place.

Upon his discharge from the hospital, he dropped out of Cheongil High, sold his family home and all but vanished. It was like he'd never existed.
