position & departmen: jooyi is applying for the journalist intern positon
background: noe jooyi is the paternal twin to noe yooji, noe yooji is the one who spent her entire life dedicated to know what others are wearing, whether it be the hottest trends or the niche details, and the next thing to be on the lookout for whenever she went shopping for the season after. yooji is the one who spent hours preparing for the interview for elle korea while jooyi was studying to become an english professor at her community college. as few days after, yooji received the email that she made it to the internship program, she did the onboarding, was given a tour around the building, and even had a badge for her first day! yooji made it a point to go to visit her family in boseong, their hometown, to celebrate her first leap into a big girl job. but everything that day was telling yooji not to go. it was pouring rain from her ride to the train station, during the steep ditch her taxi got stuck in, the cake she bought fell out of its box, and her phone was on 1% as she walked the rest of the way to her parent's house before a car hit her. her family surrounded yooji's hospital bed, her broken leg supported by a hang and a snug cushion, and a fractured collarbone. not wanting to lose her internship, yooji begged jooyi to pretend to be her. it was a journalism internship, and jooyi was better at english than her and yooji's writer skills definitely was not what got her the internship, but the connections she had. jooyi accepted it, she on the spot, she was also just starting her summer vacation, and she hated seeing her sister possibly lose the opportunity she worked her entire life for.
interview questions —
How many years of fashion experience do you have in the industry?
— I would say about 7 years. In high school I was a seasonal intern for an early succeeders program for Teen Ink, so I have more than a bit of editorial experience, journalism, and interviewing. I also worked for a fashion publication in college where I studied digital marketing at a Big 10 university. Through that experience, I gained access to employers who would host internship panels and other hiring events.
What was your reason for going into the fashion business?
— Although I have had experience at different publications, I do believe ELLE's motto enforces the orginal beliefs of creativity in self-perspective and fashion itself, and I think for me ELLE is a solid opportunity to put my experience to work.
Tell us a fun project you've done/would like to do while in the company.
— At Teen Ink I've worked on smaller features for up and coming teen models, I would collect information what advice to those in the same industry they would give, how to find their own style, and have them create a collage of their favorite clothing pieces, favorite pictures from their own shoots, and include photos of their biggest inspirators. But ELLE has a broad demographic so I think the same concept can work with the bigger features too.
