Karina’s style is bold, futuristic, and edgy with a dark, cyberpunk vibe. Karina, born Yu Jimin, grew up in a struggling lower-income neighborhood in Incheon, raised by her emotionally absent and alcoholic father. Her mother fled when Jimin was barely old enough to understand, escaping the verbal abuse and chaos of the household, leaving Jimin behind in the wreckage. Life in her childhood home was one of emotional neglect, hunger, and silence. Her father’s sporadic affection was overshadowed by bouts of drunken anger, and love was a concept she understood only through fragments of books and stories.

With little nourishment—both physical and emotional—Jimin’s young mind developed in isolation. The connections that other children formed with ease were foreign to her. Instead, she created imaginary friends to fill the void, friends who were loyal, comforting, and always present. It wasn’t until later in her life that Jimin discovered these companions weren’t as imaginary as she thought—they were the lingering souls of the dead, drawn to her untapped power to bring them back. One day, she hesitantly followed the steps whispered to her by a spirit and performed a dark, exhausting ritual to resurrect them. What began as a strange act of kindness soon turned into a dangerous cycle.
 

Now going by the name Karina, she works as a bartender at Emberstone Bar, a haven where the living and the dead mingle freely. The bar acts as neutral ground between two worlds, and Karina—with her sharp wit and no-nonsense attitude—ensures that peace is maintained. Her presence alone keeps most spirits in check, but she still uses her revivalist powers when absolutely necessary, albeit under her strict terms. Years of being begged and manipulated have shaped her into someone cynical and emotionally distant, a gatekeeper between life and death who trusts few and helps fewer.

Despite her hardened exterior, there are still moments when the kind child she once was peeks through. Karina is not without compassion, but her standards are impossibly high. She only revives those who can pay her steep price, both in life and after death, and every ritual she performs chips away at her soul. Yet, in her experience, Karina has learned one thing with absolute certainty: no one cheats death twice.
