i want to preface by saying idk how close the characters are supposed to be to their shakespearean counterparts but hamlet is my favorite play of all time ever and so i'm leaning heavily into the source material and my personal interpretaion of it. — despite being royalty he's managed to get himself caught up with the wrong crowd. his penchant for drinking means he often frequents montague establishments. he may not make enemies on purpose, but some ways to put a target on his back include: one) being recognized as king of denmark, two) insulting/offending the wrong people (via his words & actions), three) wandering into places he really shouldn't be.
