— hyunwoo arrives in haepung following the death of his father, who is the head of a gang in haepung. although the gang is relatively small, they've been an integral part of haepung's history from the very beginning and power passes down hyunwoo's family to the eldest son. the issue is hyunwoo never knew who his father was. he was raised by his single mother in seoul and never even had a second thought about getting to know his father and to be put in a position of power to a gang was honestly laughable to him. he's just a normal young adult living a normal life after all. however, his mother urges him to at least visit haepung and go to the funeral knowing just how important the town was to hyunwoo's father and wanting him to see the only gift his father would ever give him.
— once in haepung, hyunwoo is introduced to the family business as if it's just a normal corporation. and, honestly, it sort of is on the surface. their main priority is to keep haepung safe, just by any means necessary. it's nothing like hyunwoo imagined and actually seemed like a sensible place to have a career, you know, minus the federal crimes that are covered up with powerful figures in the community. here, hyunwoo finds out there are multiple factions working in haepung and not all of them get along. they especially don't get along with the yakuza, but reluctantly accept their resources that they don't have themselves. hyunwoo is advised to be cautious around them, especially since their heiress is rumored to have come to haepung for shelter.
