Description
Chittaphon Leechaiyakul was born and raised in the quiet suburbs of Bangkok. His parents were detached: his father, a strict businessman, and his mother, a former model, struggled silently with the traumas of her childhood. Chittaphon grew up in an environment where love was given on condition and expectations were overwhelming. From the day he could walk and talk, everything he did was questioned: what he wore, how he spoke, and how well he did in school. His artistic inclinations-appreciation for art, fashion, and writing-were belittled by his father as frivolous indulgences, for which he would have to take up his "true" calling: business.
The First Loss - His Father's Betrayal
At 15, Chittaphon's family lost it all. His father had been arrested for embezzlement, his dealings illegal and very publicly embarrassing for the family. Almost overnight, their home and all they had were seized, and his mother, in an effort to save face, fled to Europe, leaving Chittaphon behind. He was sent to live with his stern paternal grandmother, who viewed his creative dreams as a further embarrassment to what had essentially become a ruined legacy. This abandonment was internalized by Chittaphon, who created a belief that somehow he was to blame for his parents not keeping him around and that love was something that could be worked toward with perfection.
Rejection and Heartbreak Abroad
When he was 18, a partial scholarship landed Chittaphon the opportunity to study creative writing in the UK, equal parts salvation and exile. It was the first time he was far from the oppressive expectations of his family, but he had not been prepared for the loneliness that came with it.
He fell in love for the first time during his second year in university-with an older man, Adrian-a charismatic artist and just about everything Chittaphon would wish himself to be: free-spirited, talented, confident. Still, the relationship went from sweet to toxic when Adrian started leveraging Chittaphon's love, belittling his talent, and isolating him from friends. Chittaphon clung on to the relationship for dear life and savored whatever scraps of validation he could find. When finally Adrian cheated on him and broke it off, Chittaphon felt so destroyed that he was convinced he was not worth the love of anyone.
Rock Bottom – Losing Himself
Heartbroken, the young man became exhausted from his struggle to keep up with studies. Chittaphon started going into a spiral-he drank more to numb himself, partied to excess, and ignored his coursework. The bright young man who once dreamed of changing the world with his art found himself wallowing in self-doubt and shame. He grew behind at university and barely graduated.
Later into his studies, in the last semesters, he got acquainted with photography quite by accident: a roommate handed him an old camera and invited him to join a photo shoot. Something clicked. For the first time in years, Chittaphon felt a spark of happiness. Photography became a rope that pulled him through-to capture beauty even when he couldn't see it in himself.
Climbing Out – Healing through Art
After his graduation, Chittaphon moved to Seoul, hoping for a fresh start. He struggled at the beginning, working odd jobs at cafes and bars, but every spare moment was spent honing his photography skills. He would shoot everything: street scenes, strangers, the night sky. His portfolio grew little by little. It was through a random encounter with a local fashion designer that he stumbled upon his very first professional gig, and then his career started to bloom.
Through the years, Chittaphon earned a name in the fashion industry-not just for skill, but also for his heart. He showed real love and care to the models and clients who crossed his path, knowing well how fragile that thing called confidence was. Behind the lens, he found a purpose-capturing not just career paths, but beauty, too, when others couldn't see it within themselves.
Finding Family and Self-Acceptance
Though he achieved professional success, it would take longer for Chittaphon to heal personally. He was helped through therapy to unpack the trauma from abandonment and toxic relationships. He reconnected with his mother, who apologized for leaving him behind all those years ago. Though the relationship remained complicated, it was a step toward closure.
This was the time when Chittaphon also started exploring his biuality-to want romance shamelessly. His late twenties, he finally adopted a rescue cat-the first actual gesture of love he ever did for himself, making a home for him and another being. He realized family didn't need to come from blood; sometimes, it's in your friends, your lovers, and even in the small mundane acts of love.
Who He Is Now
Now 28, Chittaphon is that man he was dreaming to become: a famous fashion photographer and a BA graduate in creative writing. He speaks five languages and did all that mostly because of his open-hearted approach to life. No longer does he chase perfection or love based on conditions. Though the scars are still there, they remind him where he has passed from.
Chittaphon still has those moments of doubt and fear, but he does not let those feelings define him anymore. He has carved a life full of art, friendship, and quiet delights-nights spent drinking wine with friends, mornings curled up with his cat, the occasional indulgent shopping spree. His motto? "If I can see beauty in others, I can find it in myself.".
He is not sure whether someday he will have children or fall in love again, but that is a fact with which he has made his peace. The comfort is in building a life that is his alone-a life sculpted by trauma and triumph alike
