Ryujin was born into a wealthy family, them owning one of the largest tech companies in South Korea. She was the only child of the family, in all technicality, her parents first pregnancy hadn't gone as well as they had hoped and after Ryujin and her complications, they didn't want to try again.

Despite complications at birth, she was able to grow up into a healthy young woman. Having gone to a private school, she was quite athletic, and sporty, and joined many clubs to preoccupy her time. 

After graduation her parents had pressured her into arranged marriages, trying to find a good match for her, so they can properly pass down the company to her and her future husband, but she denied  them all, telling them that she wasn't interested in marriage.

Though not ready for marriage she was able to find out about this show, and wanting to take control a bit of her own life she signed up for the show, without letting her parents know about it.
