there was nothing truly extraordinary about ning yizhuo. she came from a well off family in china, parents who were moderately traditional and were both talented doctors, one a trauma surgeon and the other chief of the neurology department. but growing up, yizhuo had no interest in the medical field. she attended a private institution, and while she was leaning towards a liberal arts program, she found herself drawn to the world of journalism and reporting.

she wanted to step out of her comfort zone and fend for herself, so while applying for a few internships she landed one in south korea, not too far from home, but far enough to become independent. when she finished an accelarated degree and internship, she was offered a job at a local news chain, where she has a weekly segment reporting the weather and anything relating to natural disasters.

interest in joining the show
it was an innocent mistake. yizhuo being a social butterfly with a sweet and kind disposition, perhaps was a tad too friendly to a coworker in the camera crew. it first started with him bringing her go-to coffee order every week. then every day. then she would often catch him staring, watching her, with a devious and sinister look. when he finally managed to ask her out, she politely declined but was firm as well. shortly after the cryptic texts and letters came, and to no avail he would not leave her alone. a female friend jokingly suggested if she was married, he'd probably stop pestering her and well, perhaps in a desperate moment ning yizhuo found herself submitting an application.
