the roh clan hails from the northern town of ryeongju, bukgye with origins that trace to the imperial song dynasty. their earliest ancestor was roh yigyeong (great-great-grandparent), an emissary from the song imperial court who was sent to goryeo for diplomatic purposes. however, growing tensions between the two nations forced him to remain in goryeo. seeing an opportunity to establish himself among the court, he married the daughter of a high ranking scholar and cultivated a lineage of diplomacy and loyalty to the crown. although their roots came from foreign land, the roh clan embraced their new beginning in goryeo while preserving elements of their heritage, such as confucian ideals and scholarly traditions. the roh clan’s wisdom and integrity has earned them the trust of the court and rulers as they have continuously managed to dispatch and negotiate peace with foreign nations during times of instability. the current head of house of roh yongpae, the minister to the ministry of rites.
