- born and raised in pohang, with no proper support system. his parents were unfit to care for him, and they made that very obvious and clear since he entered the foster system because of their neglect.
- he found the joys in life when making friends and learning, anything that could take him away from his home and away from his and egg donors. he found comfort in the elderly of his neighborhood who knew his situation, being a good friend of kim wonpil's grandmother.
- there was still a part of him that so desperately wanted to leave pohang, even if he fell in love with the relationships he formed there since his youth. the closest being his group of friends in school that spawned from an informal school club, where he was the closest to a girl named kim yerim, or yeri as he called her.
- eventually, with his good grades and desire to leave the small town where he bother suffered and thrived, he managed to get into the architecture program at a prestigious university in seoul. his friends generally took it well and were proud, but he chickened out of telling yeri properly and he left while drowning in guilt.
- they have not had closure since then, and he's been avoiding contact with her in both seoul and pohang. it's much worse now since it's been a few years since he dropped out. he came back to pohang a while ago, not having the courage to face the friend he basically broke up with.

- he wants to make something of himself while also being a coward at the same time. notoriously non-confrontational and is willing to go with the flow to avoid hurting anyone, but ends up hurting more than he'd expect. most of all, himself.
- he really does want to get better, but he wishes he had a clean slate so he didn't worry about reminders of his past. it was the main reason he moved to seoul for his so-called dreams and ambitions but still can't forgive himself for hurting his closest friend.
