chapter I

Twenty-four years ago, Kang Jinho was born as the second son to Baron Kang Daejung and his wife, Lady Hyewon. Their family consisted of the three, his older brother, Seungho, heir to the barony, and his younger sister, Jangmi. His grandfather had previously managed the estate's prosperity while ensuring the welfare of its people, eventually passing the task and title onto Jinho's father. they were Known for their loyalty and sharp diplomacy, serving directly under the crown as advisors on local governance and military strategy. their expertise in both sustaining his lands and supporting the crown earned them prestige and respect within court circles, which elevated the family to their current position, these skills being forced upon and passed onto his older brother. his mother, on the other hand, was the heart of the family and a key element in solidifying their social status. She was in charge of maintaining the household and raising her kids, but she also offered support to his father's duties. 

The Kang family estate, modest compared to the wealthier nobility, was their main residence, located on the outskirts of the countryside. Although, thanks to his father's work, maintaining a presence in the capital was essential, and hence they own a townhouse in the noble district as well, allowing them proximity to the palace and influential figures, as well as acess to high society, courtly events and social connections, which were crucial in their lifestyle.

Though belonging to the lower ranks of nobility, the family carried a recent but proud lineage of loyal service under the crown. Jinho’s older brother, destined to inherit the title and estate, was raised under his father's strict hand for the responsibilities of a baron. In contrast, Jinho was mostly his mother's responsibility, much like his little sister. His upbringing was filled with warmth from the women in his life, their bond being the sole motivation and what grounded him most of the time, his protectiveness over them deepening as they grew older.

It was also thanks to his mother, who often told him stories of brave knights and their honorable deeds, that Jinho developed his dream of one day earning a place among the Royal Knights. While his elder brother prepared to inherit the estate, Jinho sought other means to achieve prestige and recognition. While Jinho’s mother supported his dream, his father’s approval was harder to win. The man believed knighthood was an unattainable dream for a second son with no notable connections, but at the same time, Jinho knew he was mostly worried about what failing at such a task would mean to the family name, and he could see the twinkle in his father's eye at the prospect of working in even closer proximity with the crown.

 

chapter ii

During his youth, Jinho began his path to knighthood with rigorous training in physical combat, equestrian skills, and some weapon practice. During these years, he befriended Hyeonju, another ambitious kid. Hyeonju’s sharp mind perfectly complemented Jinho’s physical prowess and drive, and the two quickly became inseparable, dreaming of sharing a great future and glory.

It wasn't until Jinho was sixteen, that things sharply took a turn for the worst. with the king's passing came the usurpation of the throne, and although the kingdom continued to thrive. there were those who sided with the duke and those who sided with the new king. their family tried to keep their peace as much as possible, but due to their proximity to the crown, they couldn't exactly remain neutral as it would be seen as treason, in which case, being stripped of their titled would the least of their worries. hence His father, a pragmatic loyalist, pledged allegiance to the King, believing that stability lay with the current crown.

Tragedy struck the Kang family during this tumultuous period, a result of his father's work, and consequently his family's alignment with the 'Usurper King'. Jinho returned home one evening after a grueling day of training to find his estate in disarray. His mother and sister had been victims of an orchestrated attack by rogue rebels who sided with the duke, a consequence of their political affiliations. His mother passed away, while Jangmi survived, her injuries leaving her physically and emotionally scarred. This event solidified Jinho’s resolve to protect those he loved and to ensure no harm would come to the kingdom he served, fueling his hatred for those who spread violence in the name of the Duke.

The aftermath of the attack left their household in ruins, with his sister and older brother blaming their father's decision for their mother's death. Jinho, on the other hand, channeled his grief into rigorous training. As someone who valued his loved ones and vowed to protect them. as a Knight, this loss greatly affected him, setting apart the two things he had always wished he could have side by side. HIS DREAM OF BECOMING A KNIGHT BECAME HIS DRIVING FORCE, A WAY TO HONOR the death of his mother. becoming a royal knight was the only way any of it would make him feel like he'd made it up to her and jangmi. so AT 18, HE ENLISTED IN THE military, DETERMINED TO PROVE HIS WORTH DESPITE THE EMOTIONAL AND PHYSICAL CHALLENGES HE FACED.

 

Chapter III

THROUGH RIGOROUS TRAINING, JINHO EXCELLED IN COMBAT AND STRATEGY, EARNING RECOGNITION FOR HIS DEDICATION AND PERSEVERANCE. HIS PERFECTIONIST TENDENCIES PUSHED HIM TO CONSTANTLY IMPROVE, AND HE DEVELOPED A REPUTATION FOR HIS LOYALTY, TEAMWORK, AND FOCUS.

By the time Jinho reached his twenties, his reputation as a skilled swordsman and fighter had begun to grow. His skill with the sword and his unwavering loyalty had earned him recognition within the court. He'd slowly ascended up the ranks of the military, though he knew the prince's favor would not be easily won, and he still had a long path to go if he wanted to be declared a Knight. For that, he needed to heavily impress the court, and namely, the Prince Regent. He just needed to find a good chance for it. He started following On Yujun, a superior in the military who he admired, and who had managed to ascend to personal bodyguard of the Prince Regent. Maybe if he could learn with him and follow in Yujun's footsteps, he may be able to get a foot in the door and get on the Prince's good side.

Being declared a Knight would be the ultimate honor for him. It would not not only validate years of training and dedication but also heal a little bit of the grudge he held for his loss. Hopefully, it would still make his mother and sister proud. He looks forward to a future where he can serve his King and bring peace and stability to the kingdom, ensuring that no family endures the loss and pain he had to experience. As the season slowly unfolds, Jinho stands just out of reach of his dream. The choices he will make in the following months will determine not only his fate but also the legacy he leaves behind.

jINHO IS AN EXTROVERT, who thrives in social settings, be it a grand ball, a training session, or an intimate gathering with friends. AS MUCh AS HE ENJOYS HIS OWN ALONE TIME, HE draws energy from being around others and hence PREFERs TO BE SURROUNDED BY PEOPLE. otherwise, he HATES BEING ALONE for long periods of time.

he Loves sports, especially swimming, but can get really competitive very easily. his enthusiasm, more often than not leads him to take things a bit too seriously. Still, he is great at teamwork which has shaped-up even further with his military experience. He is also incredibly focused and determined when it comes to achieving his goals.

Regarding friendships he is loyal to a fault and very reliable and trustworthy, as much as he is overprotective. very honest and straight forward but struggles with reading others or taking in subtle cues. if you aren't honest with him he is very likely to miss things and misunderstand.

When he gets too focused on his past, his family, and when things are just not working out, he can easily spiral into a weird twisted mood. his usually bright and positive demeanor dims and he becomes very negative, sometimes even borderline rude, and withdrawn from others. This happens more often around the anniversary of his mother's death. He can usually be picked up by a select few of his close friends who manage to bring him out of this state.

As he doesn't like being vulnerable in front of others, he tends to refuse help even when it is needed, believing he should be able to dominate his issues on his own. being a perfectionist jinho strives to excel in every aspect of his life which often leads to self-imposed pressure and harsh self-criticism and even punishment for even the smallest of failures.

basics. you can call me my character's name, my user or dan. i'm 26 ooc and my timezone is gmt+00. currently in college so i might get busier at times but i try to reply once every couple of days. will prioritize events and necessary activity.

writing style. when it comes to writing style, it varies based on partner. i tend to mirror but when writing starters i usually use 3rd unless requested otherwise. as for length, i usually do para or multi-para. it can be longer or shorter depending on what you're giving me, the plot itself and what stage we're on.

genres. pretty open to most genres so hit me up with anything you might want to try. my preferred genres though tend to fall on angst, drama and just anything with content or potential for character development.

mature plots. mature plots are welcome as well assuming we're all 20+ both ic and ooc and that it makes sense for both our characters. we can discuss details and boundaries in pms.

poking. i do keep track of my replies so there should be no need to poke me, but if you want to do so wait at least 7 days (it is a timed event you can poke sooner). i will let you know if i need to drop the plot for whatever reason, so unless i say something, i am probably just busy or lacking the mood or inspiration for that reply. likewise i won't poke my partners.

As a young man, Jinho’s closest friend was Hyeonju. The two boys shared everything, from secret hideaways in the woods to dreams of grandiosity and glory. However, as political tensions rose between Duke Ryu and the usurping King’s court, their friendship became strained. The two grew distant as Hyeonju stayed fiercely loyal to Duke Ryu, eventually rising to become his Royal Advisor, while Jinho saw an opportunity to carve his own path by proving his loyalty to the Prince Regent, the kingdom’s current ruler. The decision to stand with the crown came at a great personal cost. Hyeonju, now Duke Ryu’s trusted advisor, became one of Jinho’s most formidable opponents. Their shared dreams of glory shattered, with each of them representing opposing sides of the kingdom's political divide. Yet, is their bond so easy to erase?
