a caged bird yearning for release

Miyeon was born into an affluent family. Her parents were tiger parents and often had a rather strict upbringing. Because of this, Miyeon naturally became curious about the world outside of school. Beyond the achievements, beyond the awards, beyond the smiling faces of her parents who practically took her childhood away to uphold and preserve the family image of great intelligence and success.

With restricted access to phones, social media, even making friends; Miyeon exhibited recklessness and sneaking behavior. She often snuck out of the house -- if she was lucky -- to meet classmates on late nights. Sometimes even going as far as experimenting with alcohol and drugs at a young age.

When her overbearing parents found out about her devious and secret sneak-outs, they threatened her by withholding her tuition allowance. After so many arguments, so many shouting matches with police called to the home by nosy neigbors, Miyeon finally had enough. She packed up, left and never looked back.

the hope of an audacious model

Dropping out of high school, Miyeon had no chance of getting into a college. So, she opened a social media account and started posting herself in various poses and outfits that brought her a good amount of viewership, followers and likes. After a year or two after starting up a social media account and the encouragement of her followers, Miyeon began to apply for modelling agencies.

After visiting two agencies, one company called her for a in-depth, in-person interview. With much excitement and hope, Miyeon arrived thirty minutes before the interview and waited patiently. When she was called into an office room filled with men and only men, they ogled her not only the face but the rest of her body intently.

Her world came crashing down, her hopes shattered to dust around her feet when they whispered to each other. Miyeon could remember that moment when they nitpicked everything about her. Pointed out things she never knew were a problem, never knew it was an issue until that very point in time. Miyeon had left that interview with a bitter taste in , insecure, hopeless and cynical.
