【 background 】
when his parents picked him up from the orphanage, he was just a year old. his father was a british man while his mother was a local woman. they had been married for two years, residing in korea when they finally decided to adopt and have a child of their own.
at the age of seven, his family moved to britain. despite leaving his motherland, his knowledge of the language and culture never faded. this was all thanks to his mother, who would converse with him in korean, cook traditional cuisine for their meals, pass down their traditions and celebrate their festivities.
he was eleven when he learned about queerness. he had been browsing the web and stumbled upon an asian genre called "boys love". though he was surprised by its existence, it never bothered him. in fact, it piqued his intrigue. through exposure of the genre, he came to accept the concept and even started questioning his own identity when he turned twelve.
when he started delving into queer history and terminologies, he just saw a few words and labelled himself with them, without truly understanding their depths and meanings. he saw the names, read their descriptions, and through what little comprehension he had of the world and himself, decided, "yes, this fits me."
he started identifying as gender-neutral when he was twelve. however, it would not be until he was sixteen when he truly understood the meaning of being gender-neutral. it was also around this time when he started noticing his discomfort towards his birth , feeling anxious when he was perceived as female rather than feminine (yes, there's a difference) and feeling irked when she/her pronouns were used to address him.
after a lengthy discussion with his parents, he began wearing bingers at the age of seventeen. thankfully, both of his parents were understanding and supportive of his gender exploration. by the time, he turned twenty-two, he had fully realised himself and was set in going under the knife.
he wasn't interested in taking t, however. instead, he took vocal lessons to comfortably speak in a deeper voice. he also opt for masculine attire to express himself better. at the same age, he finally changed his name to his current address. his father helped to pick his english name, while his mother assisted in constructing his korean name.
so, oleander olson, or on yujun, was born.
- joined theatre in senior school. caught the attention of a scouter who offered him a gig at the west end theatre. was eventually casted for tv at age 23, which propelled his acting career
