Their home was modest but filled with everything he needed. As the youngest of three siblings, Sejun often was seen as the curious troublemaker. But life as he knew it crumbled when a severe illness swept through their district. One by one, his family fell ill. Despite his mother’s knowledge, nothing could save them. Within days, the disease claimed his parents and siblings, leaving him alone at just ten years old.
With no relatives to take him in, he was left to fend for himself, disappearing into the streets of Hanseong and neighboring villages. For over a year, he wandered, surviving on scraps and sleeping in alleyways. The once-spirited child of a respected family had become another nameless boy in the crowd, his voice swallowed by grief. He was presumed dead, just another casualty of the illness. There was no reason to search for a child who had simply vanished.
Then, a fateful encounter changed everything. A retired military officer, known for his wit and skill, crossed his path. Despite Sejun’s malnourished state, his sheer will to survive caught the older man’s eye when he fended off a group of older boys attempting to steal his food. At first, he rejected the man’s help, his time on the streets having made him wary of others. But when faced with the reality that he wouldn’t last much longer alone, he gave in and accepted the offer.

In exchange for shelter, he trained under strict discipline, initially only going through the motions to ensure his survival.
at first, training simply meant survival. it was a way to ensure he had a place to stay, food to eat. but over time, it became something more. the sword gave him clarity, a sense of control over a life he thought was beyond saving. he learned to recognize his limits, push past his weaknesses, and refine his strengths. what began as awkward and uncertain grew into something instinctive, his movements becoming fluid and controlled through sweat and repetition.
after years of relentless discipline, he became a force in his own right—exceptionally skilled in archery, combat, horseback riding, and strategy. yet, where he truly thrived was with a sword in hand. he carried himself with humility, as arrogance had long since faded, stripped away by the lessons that carved him into the very person he had become.
