Hwang Minhyun is quite kind, acting sweetly to everyone he meets. He can be quite talkative when he knows what to say, yet he can also be quite bad at responding when his mind is filled with thoughts. He is initially somewhat shy, even though he tries to work on “fixing” that. Although he tries to be more serious and grounded than his normal self to emulate what was wanted of him, when he gets close to someone, he can be quite playful.
However, his soft ambiance can flip within seconds if you stop him from doing what is “right”. Despite wanting someone to care for him, Minhyun can get quite violent when someone tries to convince him to stop his negative habits. He may hear you out if you try to talk to him in a different situation, but if you try to tell him to stop while he’s in the middle of doing something dangerous.. Be careful, or the knife may come close to your head.

“Can’t you be more like your brother?”
This again. Everyday, Minhyun heard the same words repeated to him in different ways. Everyday, he heard his father mutter “he’s a failure” while leaving the room. Everyday, his mother would call the boy “too fat” due to the lingering baby fat that rested on his face. Why wasn’t he just perfect? Couldn’t he just be like his brother, like how his parents wanted him?
Minhyun began to hate himself as the years passed by. As a young boy, he was too dense to have processed any real complaints, yet now.. he understood each and every word said to him too well. It struck him- he needed to stop being such a disappointment to his family. Even if he wasn’t born perfect, he had to make himself perfect- no matter what.
He’s set on impressing them as quickly as possible, therefore he observes their definition of perfect, his brother. Minhyun copies the elder’s way of speech, becoming more open and like a gentleman - not the shy, anxious mess he truly is. He ignores when he is called down for food, starving away the stubborn fat. Doing both of these leaves him as a weak shell of his real self, causing the boy to feel empty despite the good attention he slowly begins to receive.
It’s during his darkest times that he finds a friend to lean on, a boy older than him by 2 years. He gives Minhyun unprecedented affection and tries to help Minhyun stop the dangerous habits that he had began. Minhyun begins to become convinced that he only needs his hyung’s love, that he doesn’t need to care for a family that wouldn’t accept his true self. However, it all goes wrong. The elder boy dies soon after, brutally murdered. As Minhyun arrives to the scene and gazes down at his bloody boy, his thoughts are filled with one thing.
“You let this happen. If you had stayed with him, he wouldn’t be dead. This is your fault.”
As days pass, Minhyun falls back into his old habits. His figure becomes smaller rapidly, and he copies his brother to look composed; despite his mind being very far from neat. The feelings of numbness and worthlessness slowly become worse and worse. On certain days, he can hear the elder boy’s voice, yet it’s nothing like him. It’s his voice, however, the words are rude and blunt, telling Minhyun words he’d never want to hear again. It’s just too much for him, he needed some way to sort out this pain. That’s how Minhyun finds himself in their bathtub, streaks of red across his skin. There was a significant thrill he had found in cutting, so he secretly continued.
One day, it wasn’t a secret anymore. Minhyun was in their bathroom, sneaking into there to do a few cuts to relieve himself (and it was what his hyung was telling him to do, and how could he have not listened to the only person who loved him?) but he took too long, causing his parents’ anger. A key is inserted, and the doorknob creaks open- revealing Minhyun’s bony legs and cuts covering it as if his thighs were a canvas. Minhyun tries to explain himself, like how he was “told” to do this by his lover- but after all, he was dead and Minhyun was just hearing him in his head; it didn’t help his case at all. They force him into the dome out of pure disgust, and not wanting to handle with a boy like him in the family.
After all of this, Minhyun is left quite lost- yet there is one want that still remains. He wants someone to love him, wants someone to be with him like his hyung once did.
