History.

 

Baekhyun's mom was really a beautiful woman, unluckily she had a really sick sister to take care of and no money, so she had to ask for a loan to pay the hospital bills. Soon enough it was way too tiring for a young woman to carry such burden a she was never owner of a strong character. One day, when she tried to drown herself in the sea, she was rescued by a merman, who was drawn to the depth of her sorrow. They fell in love, but sadly it was a love not meant to last. 

They had a child and he stayed with her throughout the pregnancy, but when the beautiful little baby was born and it seemed to be completely human, he abandoned her with the kid, knowing their love was not meant to be. 

The time she spent with the merman made her completely dependant of him to be happy, so his abscence made her a sour, cruel woman. Baekhyun's childhood wasn't happy as he was always under judging eyes. 

While Baekhyun was growing, her mother understood he only semeed to be human, when in fact he was the same as his father was. The kid used to be terrified of shower since every time he touched water after his 10th birthday, a tail covered with deep wine red scales replaced his legs. Her mother went mad the first time it happened and beat him up almost to death.

Sick with having the reminder of his failed love, the woman took the little kid far away, travelling in train to another city and then, in the heart of the forest, pushed him face first into the lake. 

"You're cursed little boy, as your mother I've fullfilled my duty rasing you so far, but now you have to survive by yourself. The moment you leave the water of this lake, your heart will stop. Goodbye son."

It was a lie, but Baekhyun did not know and so he stayed in the lake, hidding between the murky waters, behind rocks, from the eyes of the living things that walked on earth.
