Jongup always wanted to be famous when he grew up because he wanted to be remembered. After realizing he was talented at dancing (with the help of his parents), he wanted to be a singer. Jongup was a trainee ever since he was ten years old and his parents supported him ever since. Born and raised in Gyeonggi-do, his parents sent him to Seoul to live with his aunt in hopes of Jongup achieving his dream.
At the age of fifteen, Jongup became apart of a group called MLIQ (Music Living in Quality) which was an eight member group. Within two months of the group's debut song the group was a success. Although he was amazing at dancing and he could finally hit the high notes, Jongup thought he could finally be remembered. But when it came to popularity polls he would always rank last. Then a fellow member, the most popular member of MLIQ decided to devise a plan to et Jongup kicked out, because he felt that Jongup was competition and that soon fans will realize how talented Jongup was.
The popular member convinced the other members of the band to file a lawsuit against the company, threateing to leave unless Jongup was removed. Their reasoning was that Jongup was abusive and would constantly get into fights with other members. Although the company knew this was false, since Jongup was always in the dance studio or vocal room practicing and that Jongup had been apart of the company for five years. They had no choice but to kick him out. Prior to the lawsuit, many fans protestted to kick Jongup out of the company. Sales were going down and Jongup had no choice but to leave the company.

He continued to dance and perform underground during the night, and worked several jobs during the morning to help send money back to his parents. Although his aunt was very supportive and understanding of the situation, his aunt was also broke so Jongup decided to pay rent towards her. One day, after a long days' work his aunt ran to him as he came home. exclaiming that there was someone to see him. Who was this someone? It was Godfrey Gao himself. The CEO looked over at Jongup and gve him the quick rundown, he wanted Jongup to become a trainee at his company. Not just any trainee, but a trainee that would be paid quadruple the amount he was getting paid right now, but the catch was, he would not be placed in a trainee group automatically, nor would he debut automatically. Jongup could only join the company a week after the First Trainee Showcase was announced, but he would still get paid, only double the amount till then. At first he was skeptical, but after a while he rembered his dream and said yes to the offer. With his parents and aunt's support, he hoped to achieve his dream once more.
Jongup as he entered the company joined a failed trainee group which was soon disbanded after it's first survival show. From there he joined the next company's survival show, Versus, he was a fixed member along with B-Joo. The group did not debut but instead was combined with R.I.N.G. an eight member group. He debuted and confessed his love to his lover, B-Joo.
