Gotta Be You
Know About Me
Leader of the city police department. As a child, Park grew up in Itaewon as the daughter of Chinese immigrants; there, she vowed, as her childhood dream, to become a cop, after witnessing numerous crimes and acts of violence endemic in Itaewon during her childhood. Park met the love of her life, Rin, while both of them were working towards law degrees at Seoul University. After witnessing a string of crimes on campus, Park was again reminded of her lifelong dream to become a cop. With a bit of love and persuasion, Rin convinced her to change from a static position as a criminal prosecutor to a full-time field worker, and from there to a full-fledged cop.
With Rin's help, Park became a reasonably competent officer, exploring Seoul and visiting microbreweries with Rin in her off-time. Her natural intelligence and inquisitiveness as a former lawyer made her good at solving cases - while perhaps more than a bit lacking in field skills - and she settled into her life, happily marrying Rin a few years into her career, at the age of 25. Despite pressure from her parents, Park was able to retain a relatively stable lifestyle with the support of her husband, whom she in turn came to dote on. Their relationship flowered and became unusually deep, despite Park's hidden guilt over her uality, which she kept secret from even her husband due to heavy and widespread social stigma.
Just after Park's first promotion, she was contacted during a run-in with a particularly volatile drunk and notified that her husband, Rin, was facing suspected gang members in Itaewon, and needed her help. Electing to remain where she was until she had calmed the drunk and saved his daughter, Park arrived too late on the scene in Itaewon, finding her husband and two of her colleagues dead in the crossfire, and at least one of the gang members nowhere to be found. Despite a subsequent second promotion, Park fell into a heavy bout of depression. Her career suffered greatly, as did her weight and health. Eventually, after a long and unwarranted hiatus, Park came back and fortuitously managed to solve a serial killer case, reigniting her desire to uphold the law after having seen the gruesome details of the case. Despite initial disapproval from the entire department at her behavior, Park managed to prove herself through a brutal self-training regimen involving primarily physical, though also mental, exercise and development. She began to excel in solving cases and even became a competent field worker, having improved in physical prowess and skill with sidearms. At the age of 30, she was promoted to local branch chief after the old chief stepped down for medical reasons. She has been the chief to this day.
While she has been noticed by men and women alike, she vowed, the day that Rin admitted his love for her, to never betray him and love anyone else. She has tried to uphold that vow by throwing herself into her ongoing campaign against the city's three major gangs, and ignoring possible romantic interests. She does not shun friends, nor - when it comes to ignoring her true desires - is she any more than human, and, deep down inside, very lonely and needy.
