Since he was young, Chanyeol had been trained in the art of defense. It was no easy feat, coming from a family that consisted of a long line of men and women who have served to protect—bodyguards, police officers, and firefighters. For Chanyeol, it was no different. His father had been a well admired police chief, who was hard working and well liked by all. Chanyeol had always looked up to him, proud to have such a father. However, not everything was sunshine and rainbows at the Park household.
Every afternoon once school let out, Chanyeol was forced to train, preparing him for the moment he should reach adulthood and become a police officer as well. It was tough, really, showing up at school with bruises on his body and being avoided by his classmates due to the rumors that spread about him being involved in fights or gangs; the teachers were aware of his situation though, which prevented him from being taken to the principal's office for questioning concerning his possible violent nature or perhaps child abuse. It was quite the struggle for young Chanyeol, having to juggle school work—getting not just decent grades, but remarkable grades—as well as practice.
Everything worked out well in the end, luckily, with Chanyeol graduating with high marks and even becoming valedictorian. He worked hard, pushing himself to the best of his abilities just so he could make his parents proud. The only problem was, the day of his graduation, his father had gotten involved in an accident that ultimately ended his life. His mother had decided to wait until after the ceremony to deliver the heartbreaking news. Chanyeol was barely out of high school when he started his work as an intern where his father worked, starting from the bottom and working his way up to his father's level. By the time he graduated college with high honors once again, he was already close to his goal.

Long nights of practice after classes and studying really paid off. Still, there was something lacking in Chanyeol's life. Perhaps the fact that he never really had time to socialize outside of work was really taking a toll on him, along with the fact that his mother was constantly on his case about being at the age of getting married. He decided if he was meant to be with someone, then they'd meet eventually, but he wasn't one to go out searching for love.
It was a year later, after that conclusion, when he had met the love of his life who went by the name Byun Baekhyun.
