Godfrey was born in Taiwan by an unknown mother with a demon father. At nine weeks old, his mother took him and fled. They barely made it into China with the intent to cross into India when an epidemic broke out. His mother fell ill and mistaken for a Chinese baby was put into an orphanage near his mother's death site. Alternatively, his father was temporarily subdued and weakened to where he was unable to follow and claim Godfrey.

As he grew in the orphanage, no one was interested in adopting him, though males were had much more value. The caretakers were suspicious of his bad health, assuming that he had also caught whatever sickness had broken out and killed his mother. Even when they fed him he would still cry, only being able to sleep when they came into physical contact with him. The women's suspicion that something was wrong was proven correct when his mark appeared.

In his fourth year at the orphanage, they noticed a peculiar mark on his body. They deducted that he was something that of a demonic origin and kicked him out. Helpless in the midst of China's rebellion, he was once again taken in. Only this time, he was taken in by one of his own kind.

His mentor Catarina was, too, running from her identity. While he had come from Taiwan, she was from Spain. Catarina taught him what she could, knowing little information about incubi since she in fact, was a warlock. When she felt he was ready, he and Catarina traveled from the mess in China to his mother's original course of action. In India, his mentor felt the presence of Godfrey's father approaching and fled on his own, leaving Godfrey alone after nearly thirty years of being together.

Back under his father's watch, he began to resent him. He attempted to flee to the other coast of India but was unable to with his father's connections watching him. Godfrey was able to hide in Mumbia very briefly, meeting a human Imasu whom he ended up falling in love with. Unable to keep his appetite properly sated like Catarina had taught him, he killed Imasu, causing him to run back to his father.

With the death of Imasu haunting him, Godfrey, with the allowance of his father, left for England on a freight train by hiding in the midst of the cargo. Nearly blowing his cover on the way, he discovered an interesting talent. He could shapeshift. It came in handy. By disguising himself as one of the workers he made it to England without a shed of blood like his father had predicted.
