about me
L.joe was born in Seoul, South Korea on November 23, 1995. His parents divorced when he was young. He stayed with his father, While his younger brother stayed with his Mother. They relocated several times for his father's career until L.joe was six, when he and his father returned to his father's home country. Together with his Father, they again moved to Canada when he was eight. L.joe attended a Boarding School until his roommate and himself were both expelled for getting into a fight with an older student in Grade 9. Consequently, L.joe returned to South Korea and spent three years and continued studying in Seoul. L.joe started to play the piano when he was six, and switched to violin, which he played for 10 years. His music teacher used to lecture him saying: "Music is communism, but you're playing democracy". However, he ceased to play violin as he was dismissed from the orchestra after suddenly playing the soundtrack of Jurassic Park while the orchestra was playing Brandenburg Concerto No.3 in a concert.
During his early life, L.joe suffered from bouts of depression, seperations of both his parents, and the origins of which are unknown. According to L.joe, whenever he faced hardship, hip hop music served as an outlet for him, and after his interest was sparked later in life, L.joe decided to make hip hop the focus of his career. However, L.joe's father disagreed in his career choice and tension arose in the family. As a result, L.joe ran away from home, but eventually his Father finally agreed with his career choice.
L.joe officially debuted as the maknae and rapper for the Korean hip hop group Epik Team under the record label Coollim Entertainment. Since their debut, L.joe has produced and co-written some of the songs of Epik Team. He has also produced and been featured in many songs for several other artists. His work incorporates numerous musical styles, ranging from hip hop to electronic music such as trance, trip hop, as well as rock.
However After a year while they're still at the peak of their success, a Group of internet users raised doubt about the personal background of their Leader, As a result their Leader decided to leave the group and The group later on disbanded. L.joe didn't give up with his dreams instead, he looked for a company and auditioned for Royal Entertainment and became a trainee.
