Broken wings don't fly.

Despite carrying his own traumas, Jinki is friendly and outgoing. It is easy
to befriend him, yet hard to win his trust. He has a very protective streak
that makes him want to help other people. He sings and plays the piano
and is currently saving up to buy his own piano. He lives alone in a small
apartment. He is an ice phoenix and can thus manipulate ice. His wings are
broken and he doesn't know if they will ever heal. Because of phoenixes'
connection to rebirth (and therefore death) Jinki can see spirits. He never
shows his wings to anyone.
●●● Born of storm and ice
For the first couple of years of his life, Jinki was treated mostly
like the other children of the flock he was born into. He was
blue while his peers were different shades of red and orange
but people seemed to be able to ignore that for the most
part. That is, until his peers started manipulating fire while
he could only manipulate ice. His flock was way too proud
to actually expell a child from their middle, but from the on
he was mostly ignore, if not harassed because of his difference.
When Jinki was 17 he fell in love. Being young and unguarded
he showed his boyfriend his wings. The boyfriend, who was
human, immediately called him a freak. When he started
beating him Jinki didn't fight back, as he had been taught
never to use his powers against humans. When the boyfriend
was finally done, Jinki's wings were a broken, shattered mess.
For a long time after the accident, he fought many bitter
feelings; he removed himself from all winged creatures,
he would catch insects and tear off their wings, and if birds
flew too close to him, he would freeze their wings in iceblocks,
forcing the birds to the ground. As time passed, he realised
it was not a healthy approach to his loss and he began changing.
Even though he was determined not to let this change him
and his outlook on life, he became much more guarded. He
doesn't trust people easily and since that experience he has
shown his wings to no one. He hates looking at them, finding
them ugly now that they are broken and torn. They seem to
be healing, but at an incredibly slow pace, and Jinki is not
sure they will heal fully before he has to leave this life behind
to be reborn.
